A homemade cherry filling peeks out from a star-shaped pastry top. You can try different shapes for other occasions and also add almond extract for another flavor. -Taste of Home Test Kitchen

1-1/4 cups sugar
2 tablespoons cornstarch
Dash salt
4 cups fresh tart cherries, pitted
Pastry for double-crust pie (9 inches)
Confectioners' sugar

Steps:

  • In a large saucepan, combine the sugar, cornstarch and salt; stir in cherries until blended. Let stand for 30 minutes. Bring to a boil over medium heat; cook and stir for 2 minutes or until thickened. Remove from the heat. , Line a 9-in. pie plate with bottom crust; trim pastry even with edge. Fill with cherry filling. Bake at 375° for 45 minutes or until crust is golden brown and filling is bubbly. Cover edges during the last 20 minutes to prevent overbrowning., Meanwhile, roll out remaining pastry to 1/8-in. thickness. Cut into 12-14 large stars and 16-18 small stars; place on an ungreased baking sheet. Bake at 375° for 8-10 minutes or until golden brown. Remove to a wire rack to cool. Sprinkle with confectioners' sugar. Place stars randomly over cooled pie. Sprinkle edges of pie with confectioners' sugar.

1 (14 ounce) can eagle brand sweetened condensed milk
1/3 cup ReaLemon juice
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
1/2 cup whipping cream, whipped or 1/2 cup Cool Whip, can be used
1 (21 ounce) can cherry pie filling
1/2 cup whipped cream, on top
1 baked pie shell (Pillsbury Roll Out pie crusts works great)

Steps:

  • Place sweetened condensed milk in mixing bowl. Add the real lemon juice and blend with a whisk until blended (not stirring to hard). Add the vanilla and almond extract. Stir until well blended. Add Cool Whip or whip cream by folding into other ingredients. Pour into a prepared baked pie shell. (I use Pillsbury Roll Out pie crust here, they are great and a great time saver). Place in refridgerator for about 2 hours before serving. Take out, pour can of cherry pie filling on top (you can use any kind of pie filling here, blueberry tastes great also!). Put a couple of dollops of whip cream on top if desired.

2/3 cup dried cherries
3 tablespoons brandy
1 crust from 1 box (14.1 oz) refrigerated Pillsbury™ Pie Crusts (2 Count)
3 tablespoons butter or margarine, melted
3/4 cup sugar
3/4 cup light corn syrup
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
3 eggs
1 1/2 cups broken pecans
1/4 cup semisweet chocolate chips
1/2 teaspoon vegetable oil

Steps:

  • In small bowl, mix cherries and brandy. Let stand 15 minutes; do not drain.
  • Heat oven to 375°F. Place pie crust in 9-inch glass pie plate as directed on package for one-crust filled pie. In large bowl, beat butter, sugar, corn syrup, almond extract and eggs with hand beater or wire whisk until well mixed. Stir in cherry mixture and pecans. Pour into crust-lined pie plate.
  • Bake 30 minutes, covering with foil after 15 minutes if pie is browning too quickly. Reduce oven temperature to 325°F. Bake 12 to 15 minutes longer or until center is set and surface is deep golden brown. Cool 30 minutes.
  • In microwavable bowl, microwave chocolate chips and oil uncovered on High 1 minute; stir until smooth. Drizzle chocolate over pie. Cool completely, about 30 minutes.

2 ½ cups ground cherries
½ cup packed brown sugar
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons water
1 (9 inch) pie shell
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
3 tablespoons white sugar
2 tablespoons butter

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C).
  • Wash ground cherries and place in unbaked pie shell. Mix brown sugar and 1 tablespoon flour and sprinkle over cherries. Sprinkle water over top. Mix together 3 tablespoons flour and 3 tablespoons sugar. Cut butter in until crumbly. Top cherry mixture with crumbs.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes, reduce temperature to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) and continue to bake for 25 minutes.

Crisco® Original No-Stick Cooking Spray
1 double crust Classic Crisco Pie Crust
1/2 cup Smucker's® Orchard's Finest® Michigan Red Tart Cherry Preserves
1 teaspoon cornstarch
3 tablespoons powdered sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons milk

Steps:

  • HEAT oven to 400°F Coat cookie sheet with no-stick cooking spray.
  • PREPARE recipe for double crust pie. Roll entire recipe into one thick 10-inch circle. Stir preserves and cornstarch in small bowl until smooth. Spread on one-half of the dough, to within about 1-inch from the edge. Fold in half. Press edges together. Flute edges or press with a fork to seal.
  • BAKE 20 to 25 minutes or until top is light golden brown. Cool 15 minutes. Stir powdered sugar and milk in small bowl until blended. Spread over entire surface of pie. Cool 15 minutes or until glaze hardens.
  • If using a package of refrigerated pie crusts, place one crust on top of the other to make a thick crust.
  • For variation, try other Orchard's Finest Preserves in this recipe - Coastal Vally Peach Apricot, Northwoods Blueberry, Northwest Triple Berry.
