6 medium potatoes
1 large onion
1 cup sour cream
1 1/2 cups chopped ham
2 cups grated cheddar cheese

Steps:

  • Slice potatoes into 3/4 inch pieces. Slice onion thinly and split into rings.
  • Combine potatoes and onions and microwave on high for 10 minutes, stirring once during cooking.
  • Remove from microwave, stir through sour cream , ham, and 1/4 cup cheese.
  • Place in greased baking dish and sprinkle remaining cheese over the top.
  • Bake at 350°F for 45 minutes.
  • This dish can be prepared ahead and refrigerated until ready for the oven. Quantities can be adjusted with potatoes and cheese as desired.

2 tablespoons olive oil
½ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon ground black pepper

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Arrange potatoes and garlic cloves in a 9x13-inch pan. Drizzle with oil and sprinkle with salt and pepper.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until potatoes are tender and garlic cloves are soft, 30 to 40 minutes.
  • Remove from the oven. Squeeze garlic cloves to release roasted garlic onto the potatoes; discard garlic skins. Mix potatoes and garlic together.

2 tablespoons olive oil
2 teaspoons garlic salt, or to taste
salt and pepper to taste

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  • Pour olive oil into a plastic bag. Measure the garlic salt and pepper onto a plate, and stir around a little. Coat each potato with olive oil by placing in the bag, and moving it around. Remove from the bag, and dip into the seasoning. Rub seasoning into the potato to coat. Place the potatoes directly on the oven rack.
  • Bake for 1 hour in the preheated oven, or until the potatoes feel soft when you squeeze them.

  • In a large saucepan, combine cream, butter and salt. Cook and stir over medium heat until butter is melted. 6 slices bacon
1 ½ cups shredded Cheddar cheese, divided
1 cup evaporated milk
½ cup sour cream
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon ground black pepper
1 cup sliced green onions, divided
½ cup shredded Cheddar cheese

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  • Place potatoes into a large pot and cover with salted water; bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer until tender, about 20 minutes. Drain and return potatoes to pot.

Original recipe from Australian Women's Weekly but modified over the years. My daughter Kerri has asked me to post this here. I usually take the quicker option and do the covered cooking in the microwave, covering with cling wrap. I've never heated the cream first and these days I substitute with skim evaporated milk and light cheese.

1 kg potato, peeled & sliced thinly
salt & pepper
1 onion, sliced thinly
200 -300 ml cream
1/2-3/4 cup cheese, shredded (amount depends on size of dish)

Steps:

  • Put a layer of potato in a greased ovenproof dish (I use a large shallow dish); sprinkle with salt & pepper, then layer some onion slices over potato.
  • Heat cream over medium heat and spoon approximately 1/4 cup over onion slices.
  • Continue in layers of potato, salt & pepper, onion and cream, finishing with potato.
  • Sprinkle cheese over and bake covered with greased foil in a moderate oven 180degC (350degC) for 30 minutes; remove foil and cook for a further 45 minutes or until potatoes are golden brown and cheese crunchy.

After searching Zaar I couldn't find a recipe like this. This recipe is a huge hit at our house. It has a smooth creamy texture with the flavours enhanced by the garlic. We serve it with all types of meat including fish.

5 -6 medium potatoes
250 ml fresh cream
2 cups grated cheese (we use cheddar)
2 garlic cloves, crushed (optional) or 2 teaspoons minced garlic (optional)
125 g diced bacon or 125 g ham
1 small onion, thinly sliced, approx 40 mm

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 180°C.
  • Peel and slice potatoes approx 5mm wide and place them in a greased casserole dish alternating layers of onion and diced ham/bacon.
  • Sprinkle grated cheese over the top.
  • Mix the garlic and the cream together and pour over the top.
  • Cook in oven with lid on for 1 hour or until potatoes have softened.
  • Remove lid and return to oven for 15-20 minutes or until cheese has turned golden brown.
  • IMPORTANT: Leave to sit for approx 15 minutes before serving.
