5 cups all-purpose flour
1-1/4 teaspoons sugar
1-1/4 teaspoons salt
1-1/4 cups butter-flavored shortening
3 large eggs
1/4 cup cold water
2 tablespoons plus 1-1/2 teaspoons white vinegar
FILLING:
10-1/2 cups sliced peeled tart apples (about 12 medium)
1 cup sugar
1 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1-3/4 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/3 cup heavy whipping cream
1/3 cup butter, cubed
1 cup chopped walnuts
1-1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar and salt. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. In a small bowl, whisk the eggs, water and vinegar; gradually add to flour mixture, tossing with a fork until dough forms a ball., Divide dough in half so that one portion is slightly larger than the other; wrap each in plastic wrap. Refrigerate for 1 hour or until easy to handle. , Roll out larger portion of dough between two sheets of waxed paper into a 17x12-in. rectangle. Transfer to an ungreased 15x10x1-in. baking pan. Press pastry onto the bottom and up the sides of pan; trim pastry even with top edges of pan. , In a large bowl, combine the apples, sugars, flour, cinnamon, salt and nutmeg. Stir in cream. , In a Dutch oven, melt butter. Add apple mixture; cook over medium heat for 8-10 minutes or until apples are slightly tender. Stir in walnuts and vanilla. Spoon into crust. , Roll out remaining pastry; place over filling. Trim and seal edges. Cut slits in top. Bake at 375° for 35-40 minutes or until crust is golden brown and filling is bubbly. Cool on a wire rack.

1 cup butter, softened
1 cup brown sugar
½ cup white sugar
¾ teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon salt
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
3 apples - peeled, cored, and diced
1 cup individually wrapped caramels, unwrapped
1 ½ teaspoons ground cinnamon

Steps:

  • Beat butter, brown sugar, white sugar, baking soda, and salt together with an electric mixer in a large mixing bowl until creamy and smooth. Beat 1 egg into the butter mixture until completely blended. Add the remaining egg and vanilla together and beat until smooth.
  • Beat as much of the flour into the butter mixture as you can with the mixer. Use a wooden spoon to stir any remaining flour into the batter.
  • Mix diced apples, caramels, and cinnamon together in a separate bowl; fold into the batter. Refrigerate batter until chilled, at least 30 minutes.
  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Grease baking sheets.
  • Drop dough by rounded teaspoonfuls 2 inches apart onto prepared sheets.
  • Bake in preheated oven until the tops are golden brown, about 8 minutes. Cool cookies on baking sheets for 1 minute before removing to a wire rack to cool completely.

4 large tart apples
4 Popsicle sticks
4 orange candy slices
1 piece black rope licorice
1 piece red rope licorice
1 cup sweetened shredded coconut
3 drops green food coloring, optional
1 package (14 ounces) caramels
2 tablespoons heavy whipping cream
8 Skittles bite-size candies
1 tube decorating icing in color of your choice, optional
4 gumdrops

Steps:

  • Line a baking sheet with waxed paper and grease the paper; set aside. Wash and thoroughly dry apples. Insert a Popsicle stick into the top of each; set aside., For eyes, cut candy slices horizontally in half. For eyebrows, cut black licorice in half lengthwise; cut each half into four 2-in. pieces. For mouths, cut red licorice into sixteen 1/4-in. pieces. For hair, tint coconut with food coloring if desired., In a microwave-safe bowl, heat caramels and cream, uncovered, on high for 1 minute; stir. Microwave 30-45 seconds longer or until melted; stir until smooth. , Dip one apple into caramel mixture, turning to coat. Place on prepared pan. Immediately decorate face with candy slices and licorice pieces. For eyes, press Skittles into caramel below candy slices or attach to candy slices with decorating icing if desired. For nose, press a gumdrop into caramel. Sprinkle coconut on top for hair. Repeat with remaining apples, rewarming caramel mixture if needed.
