¼ cup butter
4 (1 ounce) squares unsweetened chocolate
2 cups white sugar
4 egg
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
½ teaspoon salt
⅓ cup confectioners' sugar for decoration

Steps:

  • Melt butter and chocolate together over low heat or in the microwave.
  • In a medium bowl, mix eggs and sugar with an electric mixer until smooth. Stir in melted chocolate mixture. Sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt . Stir dry ingredients into the egg mixture by hand until well blended. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
  • Preheat oven to 300 degrees (150 degrees C). Grease cookie sheets.
  • Shape rounded teaspoonfuls into balls and roll in confectioners' sugar. Place cookies 2 inches apart on prepared cookie sheets. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes or until firm to touch.

1/4 cup margarine or 1/4 cup butter
4 ounces unsweetened chocolate squares
2 cups flour
2 cups sugar
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 eggs
powdered sugar

Steps:

  • Melt margarine and chocolate. Cool slightly. Stir in remaining ingredients, except powdered sugar; blend well. Chill dough for 30 minutes.
  • Heat oven to 300°F Shape dough into 1-inch balls. Roll in powdered sugar. Place 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet.
  • Bake for 15-18 minutes or until edges are set. Remove immediately from cookie sheet.

1/2 cup shortening (melted and cooled)
4 (1 ounce) unsweetened chocolate squares
2 cups sugar
4 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla
2 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cups confectioners' sugar

Steps:

  • Melt the shortening and chocolate in a bowl over hot water; cool slightly.
  • Take off heat and using an electric mixer, blend in the sugar.
  • Beat in eggs--one at a time beating for 1 minute after each addition.
  • Add the vanilla.
  • Add the flour, powder, and salt and mix well.
  • Chill for 15 minutes as the dough will be very soft.
  • Put the confectioners sugar in a shallow bowl so you can put the rolled balls in it.
  • Roll dough into balls the size of a walnut and roll in the confectioners sugar.
  • Bake in a 300 degree oven for 12-15 minutes.
  • Should be soft to touch in oven; should be chewy when done.

Mmmmm..... Chocolate Pixes. If a brownie were a cookie, this is what it would look like. Amazingly delicious. My mom used to fill the cookie jar with these. I revamped the recipe with cocoa powder, which is always available in my kitchen.

3/4 cup cocoa
5 ounces oil (a little over 1/2 cup)
2 cups sugar
4 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla
2 1/2 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
powdered sugar

Steps:

  • Combine cocoa with oil.
  • Add sugar.
  • Add eggs, one at a time.
  • Add vanilla.
  • Sift together flour, baking powder and salt.
  • Add to cocoa mixture.
  • Chill for an hour.
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Drop by teaspoon in powdered sugar, coating entirely.
  • Bake on a greased cookie sheet for 10 minutes.
  • Remove immediately, taking care so as to retain shape.
  • Cookie will be solid on the outside and soft on the inside.

This cookie is chewy and delicious. Was the favorite cookie of all my Grammys grandchildren. This recipe comes out best when mixed by hand. Mixing after each step does not toughen the dough. A foolproof recipe for the best chocolate cookie ever. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do. Please let me know what you think.

Number Of Ingredients 8

4 squares unsweetened baking chocolate
1/2 cup butter
2 cups sugar
2 cups flour (all purpose)
2 teaspoons baking powder
4 eggs
1 dash salt
1 cup powdered sugar

Steps:

  • Pre-heat oven to 300 degrees.
  • Melt butter and chocolate in sauce pan over low heat. Pour into mixing bowl.
  • Add sugar and mix.
  • Add eggs one at a time. Mixing after each one.
  • Sift remaining dry ingredients and add.
  • Chill atleast 1 hour.
  • Use smallest (#20 I think) ice cream scoop and drop each one into powdered sugar.
  • Roll into balls and place on ungreased or parchment covered cookie sheet atleast 1 inch apart.
  • Press lightly with a fork.
  • Bake 9-11 minutes and cool on wire rack. Cookie will still be plyable until it cools.
