1 teaspoon(s) soda

3/4 cup(s) butter or shortening

- filling:
1 package(s) dates, chopped
1 cup(s) sugar
1/2 cup(s) water

Steps:

  • FILLING: Boil until thick-cool.
  • Mix shortening, sugar and egg, add oatmeal, flour, soda. Spread half of batter in bottom of pan, then filling and remaining batter.
  • Bake about 1/2 hour in 325 degrees

3 cups chopped pitted dates (1 lb)
1 1/2 cups water
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 cup packed brown sugar
1 cup butter or margarine, softened
1 3/4 cups all-purpose* or whole wheat flour
1 1/2 cups quick-cooking oats
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt

Steps:

  • In 2-quart saucepan, cook filling ingredients over low heat about 10 minutes, stirring constantly, until thickened. Cool 5 minutes.
  • Heat oven to 400°F. Grease bottom and sides of 13x9-inch pan with shortening.
  • In large bowl, stir brown sugar and butter until well mixed. Stir in flour, oats, baking soda and salt until crumbly. Press half of the crumb mixture evenly in bottom of pan. Spread with filling. Top with remaining crumb mixture; press lightly.
  • Bake 25 to 30 minutes or until light brown. Cool 5 minutes in pan on cooling rack. Cut into 6 rows by 6 rows while warm.

1/4 cup butter (softened)
1 cup packed light brown sugar
1 3/4 cups sifted flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1 1/2 cups Quaker Oats
3 cups pitted chopped dates
1/4 cup sugar
1 1/2 cups water

Steps:

  • Mix shortening, butter and brown sugar together until light and fluffy.
  • Sift together flour, baking soda and salt.
  • Mix oats into flour mixture.
  • Mix oat mixture into shortening mixture until crumbly.
  • Put half of the oat mixture in a 9" x 13" greased and floured pan and press and flatten in pan.
  • Date filling:.
  • Place dates, sugar and water in medium saucepan over low heat, stirring constantly until thickened - about 10 minutes. Let cool.
  • Spread date filling onto oat crust.
  • Cover with remaining crumb mixture, press lightly.
  • Bake at 400 degrees for 30 minutes.
  • Let cool and cut into bars.

1 1/2 cups chopped pitted dates
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1 cup (packed) dark brown sugar

1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks) unsalted butter, diced, room temperature

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Butter 8x8-inch metal baking pan. Bring 1 1/2 cups water to simmer in medium saucepan. Add dates; simmer until very soft and thick, stirring occasionally, about 10 minutes. Cool to room temperature. Stir in vanilla.
  • Combine flour, sugar, oats, cinnamon, baking soda, and salt in large bowl; stir to blend. Add butter. Using fingertips, rub in until moist clumps form. Press half of oat mixture evenly over bottom of prepared pan. Spread date mixture over. Sprinkle with remaining oat mixture; press gently to adhere. 1 ½ cups rolled oats
1 ½ cups sifted pastry flour
¼ teaspoon salt
¾ teaspoon baking soda
1 cup packed brown sugar
¾ cup butter, softened
¾ pound pitted dates, diced
1 cup water
⅓ cup packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon lemon juice

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • In a large bowl, combine oats, pastry flour, salt, 1 cup brown sugar, and baking soda. Mix in the butter until crumbly. Press half of the mixture into the bottom of a 9 inch square baking pan.
  • In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine the dates, water, and 1/3 cup brown sugar. Bring to a boil, and cook until thickened. Stir in lemon juice, and remove from heat. Spread the filling over the base, and pat the remaining crumb mixture on top.
  • Bake for 20 to 25 minutes in preheated oven, or until top is lightly toasted. Cool before cutting into squares.

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 9 inch square baking pan.
  • To make filling: In a small saucepan, combine dates, brown sugar, and water. Bring to a boil and cook, stirring constantly for 10 minutes. Remove from heat.
  • To make the crust: Combine flour, oats, brown sugar, baking powder, and salt in large bowl. Cut in shortening until mixture becomes crumbly. Press half of crust evenly into baking pan. Spread date mixture over the top. Crumble remaining crust mixture over the top of date mixture.

1/2 cup sugar

1/4 teaspoon almond extract
3/4 cup shortening

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350°. In a small saucepan, combine dates, water and sugar. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; simmer, uncovered, until thickened and dates are tender, stirring constantly, 7-9 minutes. 3/4 cup shortening
1/2 cup sugar
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda

1 cup sugar
1 cup water
1 to 2 tablespoons lemon juice, optional
GLAZE:
1-1/2 cups confectioners' sugar

3 tablespoons milk

Steps:

  • Place oats in a food processor, cover and process until finely ground; set aside. In a large bowl, cream shortening and sugar until light and fluffy. On a lightly floured surface, roll half of dough to fit a greased 13-in. x 9-in. baking pan; set aside. , In a large saucepan, combine the dates, sugar, water and lemon juice if desired; bring to a boil. 1 3/4 cups oatmeal
1 1/2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
3/4 cup butter, melted
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 lb chopped dates
3/4 cup sugar
1 cup water
1 tablespoon butter
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup chopped walnuts

Steps:

  • Make the filling: Boil dates, sugar, and water until thick, about 5-10 minutes.
  • Add 1 TBSP butter, the vanilla, and the walnuts.
  • Set aside to cool a bit.
  • Prepare the crust: Combine all dry ingredients with the melted butter.
  • Press half of the mixture into a lightly greased 13 x 9 pan.
  • Cover with filling mixture and top with remaining half of crust mixture.
  • Press lightly.
  • Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes.
  • NO LONGER THAN THAT!
  • Cut into squares when cool.
