CUSTARD PIE
Adopted Recipe. When I tried the recipe I used the suggestions in the reviews, and increased the nutmeg from the original 1/8 teaspoon to 1/4 teaspoon, and also added 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon, which was not called for in the original recipe. Use more if desired.

OLD-FASHIONED CUSTARD PIE
This recipe came from the best cook in West Virginia-my mother! I just added a little to her ingredients. I'm a widow, and my grown children live in another state. So mostly I make my custard pie for church and club functions. It's the most different pie of all the ones in my collection.

Steps:
- Break eggs into mixing bowl. Combine sugar with cornstarch. Whisk into eggs until incorporated. Continue to whisk for 1 minute. Add evaporated milk, water, vanilla and salt. Mix until well-incorporated. Cover bowl and refrigerate overnight. Preheat oven to 400°F. Skim off any bubbles from top of filling. Stir gently to blend in cornstarch settled on bottom of bowl. Do not create bubbles while stirring. Pour filling into pie shell, filling it 1/4 inch from rim. Bake 10 minutes, then add more filling, up to the rim of the pie shell. Continue baking about 20 minutes longer, until done. Check frequently. NOTE: Nudge the pie gently; if it ripples near the center, it is not quite ready. Do not over bake. If the pie puffs up in the center, you've baked it too long, and your filling will be full of holes and watery (what a shame).

10 TRADITIONAL HAITIAN DESSERTS - INSANELY GOOD
From insanelygoodrecipes.com
4.6/5 (16)Published 2021-09-20Category Desserts, Recipe Roundup
- Haitian Orange Cake. This simple cake is one of the easiest desserts you’ll ever make, which may be why it’s so incredibly popular in Haiti. It takes only 15 minutes to prepare and another 40 to cook, and it requires only the most fundamental ingredients to make.
- Coconut Candy (Tablet Kokoye) These candies may look like a sticky mess – and they are – but they’re also unbelievably tasty. You get a bit of the cinnamon and brown sugar in the flavor, but you’ll mostly taste coconut, coconut, and more coconut.
- Haitian French Toast. Haitian French toast is a lot like any other recipe for French toast you’ve tried, but it’s thicker (made with a baguette) and has hints of orange flavor in it.
- Haitian Sweet Potato Bread. Despite its name, this sweet treat is less like bread and more like a delectable custard-filled pie. It takes quite a while to make – 1 hour to prepare and another 3 to bake.
- Haitian Beignets. Whether you eat them in New Orleans or Haiti, beignets are always going to be exquisite. T. he deep-fried crust, the rich, spiced flavor… there’s nothing about them that isn’t incredible.
- Haitian Hot Chocolate. If you’re looking for a thick, creamy drink to warm you up on a cold winter’s night, you can’t beat Haitian hot chocolate. It’s unbelievably chocolatey, with just a hint of cinnamon and salt added for taste.
- Coconut Flan. To make this supremely tropical, coconut-heavy flan, all you’ll need is sugar, condensed milk, evaporated milk, milk, eggs, and shredded coconut.
- Haitian Lemonade. Desserts don’t always have to be decadent and full of chocolate and other over-the-top ingredients. Sometimes they can be as simple as a refreshing, sugary glass of lemonade.
- Caribbean Coconut Sugar Cakes. Bright red and full of coconut, these crunchy on the outside, chewy on the inside treats are always a fun option for everyone.
- Krema. This tasty dessert drink is especially popular during the holiday season. It’s pretty much the equivalent of spiked eggnog, though krema has a lot more going on and can easily be made vegan-friendly.
