The only difference today is that I can't get home-smoked ham like those Grandpa used to cure in his old-fashioned smokehouse. But that never matters to hungry folks at the table-Grandma's recipe is a winner every time!"

2 eggs
1 cup milk
1 cup dry bread crumbs
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1-1/2 pound ground fully cooked ham
1/2 pound ground pork
GLAZE:
1/3 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup cider vinegar
1/2 teaspoon ground mustard
2 tablespoons water

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, beat the eggs; add milk, bread crumbs and pepper. Add ham and pork; mix well. In a shallow baking pan, shape meat mixture into an 8x4-in. oval. Insert a thermometer. Bake at 350° for 30 minutes. , Meanwhile, combine glaze ingredients. Spoon over loaf. Bake 40 minutes longer or until the thermometer reads 170°, basting occasionally with glaze.

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  • In a large bowl, combine the meats, eggs, milk, bread crumbs, and pepper.
  • Mix well and form into a loaf. Place loaf into a loaf pan.
  • Mix mustard, pineapple juice and brown sugar. Pour over loaf in pan.
  • Bake at 350° F for about 1 hour. Baste several times during baking.

4 large eggs, lightly beaten
1 cup 2% milk
2 pounds ground pork
2 pounds ground fully cooked ham
1-1/2 cups packed brown sugar

1/2 cup white vinegar

  • In a large bowl, combine the bread crumbs, eggs and milk. Crumble pork and ham over mixture and mix well. 1 tablespoon prepared mustard
1/4 cup onion (chopped)
1 tablespoon​ fresh parsley (chopped)
1/2 cup quick-cooking oats
3/4 cup evaporated milk (or half-and-half )
1 ​large egg (beaten)
1/4 cup light brown sugar (or dark brown sugar, packed)
1/4 cup vinegar
Garnish: tomato slices, spinach leaves, hard-cooked egg slices

Steps:

  • Gather the ingredients.
  • Heat the oven to 350 F. Grease a 9x 5 x 3-inch loaf pan
  • Combine ground ham, mustard, chopped onion, parsley, oats, milk, and egg; mix well to blend.
  • Form into a loaf in the prepared loaf pan.
  • Combine the brown sugar and vinegar in a small saucepan . Place the saucepan over medium heat and cook until the sugar has dissolved.

Similar to meatloaf, this Amish Ham Loaf is made with ground ham and pork, seasoned with curry powder, ground ginger, and nutmeg then glazed with a sweet and sour sauce.

1 pound ground ham (about 3 cups)
1 pound ground pork
2 to 2 1/2 cups soft white bread crumbs
2 large eggs
3/4 cup sour cream
1/2 cup finely chopped onion
2 TBSP lemon juice
1 tsp. curry powder
1 tsp. ground ginger
1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg
2 TBSP yellow mustard
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup cider vinegar
1/4 cup water
1/2 tsp. fresh ground black pepper
Ketchup (optional)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Prepare a broiler pan by covering the bottom portion in foil. Replace the slotted top and spray lightly with cooking spray. Set aside.
  • In large bowl, with hands, combine the ground ham, ground pork, and 2 cups soft bread crumbs.
  • In medium bowl, whisk together the eggs, sour cream, onion, lemon juice, ginger, nutmeg, and mustard.
  • Pour wet ingredients into bowl with ham/pork/breadcrumb mixture and combine with hands until it all comes together. If it feel too wet, add the rest of the breadcrumbs.
  • Shape into an oblong loaf onto prepared broiler pan. Let sit for about 30 minutes before putting into oven.
  • Bake for 30 minutes. Baste with 1/2 the glaze. Return to oven and bake for another 15 minutes. Baste with the remainder of the glaze. Return to oven for another 15 to 25 minutes. Top with ketchup, if desired, and pop into oven for another couple of minutes.
  • Let rest for 15 minutes before slicing.
  • Combine all glaze ingredients except ketchup in a small saucepan and heat to boiling. Take off heat and use as directed in the Ham Loaf instructions above.

  • Bake additional 20 minutes, basting with glaze.

1 pound ground pork
1 egg
⅔ cup seasoned bread crumbs
½ cup milk

2 tablespoons cider vinegar

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350°F.
  • Cook onion in butter for 5-6 minutes or until tender. Cool completely.

1 Tbsp butter
1/4 cup onion ((white or yellow onion, finely diced))
3 cups ham ((cubed and ground or very finely diced cooked ham))
1 lb ground pork
1 large egg
2/3 cup seasoned breadcrumbs ((Italian seasoned, Garlic & Herb, or seasoned Panko breadcrumbs))
1/2 cup milk
1/8 tsp ground black pepper
1/4 cup light brown sugar ((packed))
1 Tbsp Dijon mustard
1 Tbsp apple cider vinegar
pineapple rings & maraschino cherries ((optional toppings))

Steps:

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a rimmed baking sheet or baking dish with parchment paper.
  • Melt the butter in a small skillet or frying pan over medium heat, then saute the diced onion for 4-5 minutes or until it reaches your desired level of tenderness. Remove from heat when done and allow to cool.
  • Place cubed ham into a food processor and pulse until broken up and ground, but not turning into a paste consistency. Transfer the ham into a large mixing bowl.
  • Add the remaining ingredients (ground pork, egg, seasoned breadcrumbs, milk, ground black pepper, and sauteed onion) and mix until well combined.
  • Transfer the ham loaf mixture to your prepared baking sheet or pan and form into a loaf shape, approximately 8x4-inches in size. Place the loaf into your oven in the middle of the center rack and bake for 1 hour at 350°F (175°C) or until the internal temperature of the ham loaf reaches 160°F (71°C).
  • Combine the glaze ingredients in a small bowl (light brown sugar, Dijon mustard, and apple cider vinegar) until smooth. Coat the ham loaf with the glaze and top with optional pineapple rings and maraschino cherries then return to the oven for an additional 15 minutes.
  • Remove the cooked ham loaf from your oven and tent a sheet of aluminum foil over the loaf loosely. Allow the ham loaf to rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
