HOMEMADE CRISPY SEASONED FRENCH FRIES

Homemade Crispy Seasoned French Fries image

My family loves French fries and with 4 children the bag fries from the store just weren't enough and became too expensive. So I tried batter - after all it makes chicken, shrimp, and onion rings crispy so why not potatoes. Now even my husband can't get enough of these French fries. They even stay crispy when you reheat in the microwave.

Time 25m

Yield 8

Number Of Ingredients 8

2 ½ pounds russet potatoes, peeled
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon garlic salt
1 teaspoon onion salt
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon paprika
½ cup water, or as needed
1 cup vegetable oil for frying

Steps:

  • Slice potatoes into French fries, and place into cold water so they won't turn brown while you prepare the oil.
  • Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. While the oil is heating, sift the flour, garlic salt, onion salt, (regular) salt, and paprika into a large bowl. Gradually stir in enough water so that the mixture can be drizzled from a spoon.
  • Dip potato slices into the batter one at a time, and place in the hot oil so they are not touching at first. The fries must be placed into the skillet one at a time, or they will clump together. Fry until golden brown and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.

PERFECT FRENCH FRIES

Perfect French Fries image

In a nutshell, here it is: Soak potatoes, dry potatoes, fry potatoes, drain potatoes, then fry again!

Provided by Ree Drummond : Food Network

Categories     side-dish

Time 2h50m

Yield s: 8 servings

Number Of Ingredients 3

5 pounds russet potatoes
Vegetable or peanut oil, for frying
Sea salt

Steps:

  • Peel and rinse the potatoes. Then cut them into sticks by cutting the potato in 4 or 5 vertical pieces, and then cutting each piece into sticks.
  • Place them in a large bowl and cover with cold water. Allow them to soak, 2 to 3 hours. (You can also stick them in the fridge and let them soak overnight.)
  • When you're ready to make the fries, drain off the water and lay the potatoes on 2 baking sheets lined with paper towels. Blot with paper towels to dry them.
  • Heat a few inches of oil in a heavy pot to 300 degrees F. In 3 or 4 batches, cook the potatoes until soft, 4 to 5 minutes per batch. They should not be brown at this point! You just want to start the cooking process. Remove each batch and drain on new/dry paper towels.
  • Once all the potatoes have been fried at 300 degrees F, turn up the heat until the oil reaches 400 degrees F. When the oil's hot, start frying the potatoes in batches again, cooking until the fries are golden and crisp. Remove the potatoes from the oil and drain on paper towels.
  • Sprinkle with sea salt and dive in!

BEST BAKED FRENCH FRIES

Best Baked French Fries image

The healthiest way to make fries is to bake them. It saves money and you can't beat the taste. I have been playing around with different ways to bake fries for some time now, and I feel this is the best recipe thus far. Baking time may vary depending on how thick you cut the fries. Enjoy!

LITTLE PIECE OF HEALTHY HEAVEN BAKED FRENCH FRIES

Little Piece of Healthy Heaven Baked French Fries image

Simply put, these are to die for. Loved by all ages and you don't even need ketchup! Zero clean up as well :)

Provided by MelvinsWifey

Categories     Potato

Time 40m

Yield 4-6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 9

4 idaho potatoes
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
2 tablespoons herbes de provence
1/4 cup parmesan cheese, grated (use more to taste)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 425.
  • Wash potatoes and peel them if you like (I leave skins on for more crunch!) Cut potatoes in half lengthwise, and then in half lengthwise again. Cut into strips, as thin as possible. It's ok if some are a little thicker.
  • Place cut up fries in a big ziploc bag and add olive oil. Shake to coat.
  • In a small bowl, mix all spices, and then dump into bag. Shake to coat.
  • Line 2 cookie sheets with foil. Spray lightly with cooking spray.
  • Arrange fries in a single layer on sheets (don't overlap too much) and sprinkle grated parmesan all over potatoes. Put in preheated oven and bake for 30-45 minutes. You want them to turn golden brown with some crispy edges. 4-5 of them on the outside may turn darker but they are still extremely tasty and just cook faster than the ones in the middle. Watch them closely for desired texture! Just make sure the parm cheese starts to become a golden brown color and potatoes are cooked through!

  • Sweet Potato Fries. Swapping out white potatoes for sweet ones instantly make French fries a far healthier treat. The orange spuds have higher counts of key vitamins and minerals including vitamin A, calcium and fiber.
  • Baked Asparagus Fries with Roasted Garlic Aioli. We’ve always wanted an excuse to eat asparagus with our hands, and this recipe is the perfect excuse.
  • Crispy Baked Portobello Mushroom Fries. Traditional French fries are high in sodium content. However, these mushroom slices, which are smothered in panko, Parmesan (though Asiago works well, too) and spices, only require a teeny bit.
  • Parmesan Carrot Fries. Consider these souped-up carrots your new favorite treat: Baking, instead of frying, brings out the veggie’s natural sweetness.
  • Baked Avocado Fries With Cilantro Lime Dipping Sauce. If avocados are good with anything (which yes, they are), then avocado fries are basically everything.
  • Crispy Parmesan Baked Green Bean Fries. Green bean casserole may be a guilty pleasure, but there’s nothing to feel guilty about with this indulgent yet light snack.
  • Baked Polenta Fries With Garlic Tomato Sauce. You’ll feel like you’re at an Italian restaurant after giving this recipe a go, despite the fact that they take about zero effort.
  • Baked Zucchini Fries with Garlic Herb Dip. You’ll love the crunchy outside and warm, soft inside of these nutrient-rich zucchini fries. Plus, for 10 fries and two spoonfuls of the yummy garlic and herb dip, you consume under 150 calories.
