These taste soooo close to Olive Garden® breadsticks! So delicious! Goes well with pizza, pasta, and soup!

¼ cup white sugar, divided
1 (.25 ounce) package active dry yeast
1 cup warm water, divided
2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour, or more if needed
3 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 egg
½ teaspoon salt
½ cup butter, melted
½ teaspoon garlic salt
¼ cup Parmesan cheese

Steps:

  • Dissolve 1 1/2 teaspoons sugar and yeast in 1/2 cup warm water in a bowl. Let stand until yeast softens and begins to form a creamy foam, about 5 minutes.
  • Beat flour, oil, egg, salt, remaining sugar, and remaining warm water into yeast mixture until smooth, adding more flour if needed to form a soft dough. Turn dough onto a floured work surface; knead until smooth and elastic, 6 to 8 minutes.
  • Place dough in a greased bowl, turning once to cover completely with oil. Cover bowl with a damp towel and place in a warm area until dough is doubled in size, about 40 minutes.
  • Grease a baking sheet.
  • Punch dough down and turn onto a floured work surface. Divide dough into 18 pieces and shape each into a 6-inch rope. Arrange dough pieces on the prepared baking sheet about 2 inches apart; cover with a towel or plastic wrap and let rise until doubled in size, about 25 minutes.
  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Remove cover from dough.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until golden brown, 10 to 12 minutes.
  • Whisk butter and garlic salt together in a bowl; brush over each breadstick. Sprinkle Parmesan cheese over each.

These are so easy and they make the kitchen smell heavenly. Serve these with cocktails or dinner or as a snack. A friend gave me this recipe back in the 1970's and I still make them several times a year.

8 hot dog buns
1/3 cup parmesan cheese, grated
1 cup butter
1 teaspoon dried parsley
1 1/2 teaspoons dried oregano
1 1/2 teaspoons dried basil
1 teaspoon garlic salt

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 200 degrees F.
  • In a small saucepan melt butter, parsley, oregano, basil and garlic salt.
  • Cover a 15x12 jelly roll pan with parchment paper or aluminum foil.
  • Cut each hot dog bun in half lengthwise, than cut each half in half lengthwise, making 4 bread sticks from each bun. Lay bread sticks close together on jelly roll pan, cut side up.
  • Brush all the butter mixture evenly over the bread sticks. Sprinkle with parmesan cheese.
  • Bake for 2 to 2 1/2 hours or until the bread sticks are dried out and crispy. Cool.
  • Store in tightly covered container.

1 package active dry yeast
4 1/4 cups all-purpose flour,plus more for dusting
2 tablespoons unsalted butter,softened
2 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon fine salt
3 tablespoons unsalted butter,melted
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
1/8 to 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
Pinch of dried oregano

Steps:

  • Make the dough: Place 1/4 cup warm water in the bowl of a mixer; sprinkle in the yeast and set aside until foamy, about 5 minutes. Add the flour, butter, sugar, fine salt and 1 1/4 cups plus 2 tablespoons warm water; mix with the paddle attachment until a slightly sticky dough forms, 5 minutes.
  • Knead the dough by hand on a floured surface until very smooth and soft, 3 minutes. Roll into a 2-foot-long log; cut into 16 1 1/2-inch-long pieces. Knead each piece slightly and shape into a 7-inch-long breadstick; arrange 2 inches apart on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Cover with a cloth; let rise in a warm spot until almost doubled, about 45 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Make the topping: Brush the breadsticks with 1 1/2 tablespoons of the butter and sprinkle with 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt. Bake until lightly golden, about 15 minutes. Meanwhile, combine the remaining 1/4 teaspoon salt with the garlic powder and oregano. Brush the warm breadsticks with the remaining 1 1/2 tablespoons melted butter and sprinkle with the flavored salt.

1 sweet green pepper, cored seeded
1 sweet red pepper, cored seeded
1 large vidalia onion, peeled
1 -3 jalapeno, seeded and minced
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup unsalted dry roasted peanuts, coarsely chopped
1/4 cup natural chunky peanut butter
1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
1 tablespoon gingerroot, grated
2 teaspoons garlic, grated
2 teaspoons sugar
1 teaspoon Braggs liquid aminos or 1 teaspoon soy sauce
1/4 cup water

Steps:

  • Prepare Dressing by combining all ingredients except water. Add the water 1 tbsp at a time and whisk after each addition. When the dressing reaches the consistancy of mayo set it aside.
  • Salad: Prepare the vegetables to suit cut in pieces or slivered. Combine in a large bowl using jalapeno to taste. Chill this one hour before serving. Do not use the peanuts in this step.
  • Remove salad from refrigerator, sprinkle with salt or salt sub. Combine with dressing. Toss until well covered. Just before serving sprinkle on the peanuts. Toss a second time and serve immediately.
  • Note if making this for a Vegan make sure the dry roasted peanuts are Vegan. Not all are.

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 350ºF.
  • Unroll breadstick dough; separate into strips. Wrap 1 strip in spiral fashion around each frank; place on baking sheet.

2 tbsp sunflower oil
6 large pork sausages
1 large onion , sliced
1 tsp yellow mustard seeds
6 big flour tortillas
2 tbsp tomato relish
paper napkins , to serve

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to fan 180C/ conventional 200C/gas 6. Pour the oil into the tin and put it in the oven for a couple of minutes to heat up. Add the sausages to the hot tin and roast for 10 minutes.
  • Push the sausages to the outer edges of the tin and scatter the sliced onion in the centre. Sprinkle the onion slices with the mustard seeds and some salt and pepper and turn them to coat in the hot oil at the bottom of the tin. Return to the oven for 10-15 minutes until the sliced onions are golden and the sausages are completely cooked through.
  • Briefly heat the flour tortillas in the oven, microwave or in a dry frying pan to make them softer and easier to roll. Place a sausage and some onion on each one, top with a spoonful of relish and roll, folding the bottom over. Serve straight away, wrapped in paper napkins.

2 (8 ounce) packages refrigerated dinner roll dough
¼ cup margarine, melted
1 tablespoon garlic salt
¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
2 tablespoons sesame seeds

Steps:

  • Lightly grease one large baking sheet.
  • Divide each roll in half. Roll dough between hands to make a 4-inch long stick. Place sticks on the prepared baking sheet. Brush lightly with egg white or melted butter or margarine. Sprinkle with garlic salt. Sprinkle with parmesan cheese or sesame seeds. Cover and allow to rise until doubled in size, about 30 minutes.
  • Bake in a preheated 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) oven for 12 minutes or until golden brown. Do not overbake as these burn easily on the bottom.
