Hot Dog Tag-Alongs image

Who wants to mess with all those jars and bottles of condiments all over the table? Here is a great lunch or to-go dish that saves all that leftover clean-up and mess. You can make the filling ahead then assemble them when ready to cook at home, a picnic, or tailgate party. :)

Number Of Ingredients 8

8 hot dogs, chopped
4 ounces cheddar cheese, shredded
1 small onion, chopped
2 -3 tablespoons pickle relish
1 teaspoon prepared mustard
1 teaspoon ketchup
8 ounces chili (choose your favorite)
12 hot dog buns

Steps:

  • In a large mixing bowl, stir together all ingredients except buns.
  • Have 12 pieces of aluminum foil ready. Partially hollow out centers of buns.
  • Fill each bun with hot dog mixture. Wrap in aluminium foil, sealing securely.
  • Place on a cookie sheet and bake in a preheated 375 degree Fahrenheit oven for 20 minutes OR place on top rack of outdoor grill; cover grill and grill for 15 to 20 minutes.

"What screams summer more than grilled hot dogs?" asks Maria Regakis of Somerville, Massachusetts. She places hot dogs in buns before topping them with a zesty cheese sauce and grilling them in a double layer of foil.

1-1/2 cups shredded pepper Jack cheese
3/4 cup chopped seeded tomato
3 tablespoons chopped onion
2 tablespoons sweet pickle relish
8 hot dogs
8 hot dog buns

Steps:

  • In a small bowl, combine the cheese, tomato, onion and relish. Place hot dogs in buns; top with cheese mixture. , Wrap each hot dog in a double thickness of heavy-duty foil (about 12x10 in.). Grill, covered, over medium-hot heat for 8-10 minutes or until heated through. Open foil carefully to allow steam to escape.

1 block (4 ounces) cheddar cheese, cut into 8 strips
2 bacon strips, cooked and crumbled
1 tube (8 ounces) refrigerated crescent rolls

Steps:

  • Cut a lengthwise slit in each hot dog; fill with a strip of cheese and about 1/2 teaspoon bacon. Separate crescent dough into 8 triangles. Place a hot dog on the wide end of each triangle; roll toward the point. Place cheese side up on an ungreased baking sheet. Bake at 375° until golden brown, 12 minutes or until golden brown.
