INSTANT POT SOUTHERN HOT DOG CHILI RECIPE
Homemade hot dog chili is so much better than the canned stuff and making this Instant Pot Southern Hot Dog Chili recipe is simple and easy! Unlike the traditional versions where you cook the hot dog chili long and slow; this recipe is made in a short time. Steps:
- Turn on saute setting on Instant Pot.
- Saute 2 lbs ground beef and 1 cup chopped onion until meat is cooked. (I use the meat grinder tool while I saute it to grind the meat into small pieces.)
- Turn off Instant Pot. Add 2 cups ketchup, ¼ cup apple cider vinegar, ¼ cup brown sugar, ¼ cup mustard, 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce, ½ tsp celery salt, and 1 tbsp chili powder.
- Cook on Manual, High for 10 minutes.
- Fast release when done.

- In the instant pot add the butter and press the saute' button to melt, then add onions and saute for a few minutes.
- Add the garlic, beef, and sausage and halfway brown the meat.
- Stir in the chili powder, brown sugar, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, tomatoes, tomato sauce, and seasonings.
- Add a can of chili beans if preferred.
- Press the Chili setting and close the pot securely with the valve placed on sealing.
- After the timer goes off, let the pot set until the pressure is self-released and leave in the pot on the warm setting until ready to serve.

- Cover the ground beef with water and break up the meat completely. Next, add the beer (if using), diced onion, Worcestershire, ketchup, hot sauce sauce and spices and start on Medium High to bring to a rapid boil.
- Reduce and simmer. You can cook it down faster if needed on a higher temperature, just until most water is reduced. Stir occasionally.
- When water is reduced, add tomato paste to thicken. Stir to incorporate.
- Serve as a hot dog topping.
- Leftover chili sauce freezes well.

- Place ground beef in sauce pot over Medium heat.
- Crumble the beef as it begins to cook.
- Cook beef until browned. Drain and discard any grease.
- Add the water.
- Add the salt.
- Add the black pepper.
- Add the chili powder
- Add ketchup.
- Stir and let simmer for about 20 minutes.
- Add sugar.
- Add vinegar.

- Put a couple tablespoons of vegetable oil in medium sauce pan.
- On medium-high heat, saute onion until translucent, then add garlic.
- Stir for about a minute, then add ground beef.
- As beef begins to brown, use a potato masher to grind up the beef into small bits.
- Once brown, add in the rest of the ingredients (if your beef produced a lot of grease, you may want to strain some of that out first before adding the rest of the ingredients).
- Give it all a good stir to combine then reduce heat and simmer for about 15 minutes.
- Do a taste test at this point to see if it has enough salt.
