3 stalks fresh lemon grass (available at Asian and some supermarkets) (see Note)
Raw sugar, honey, or other sweetener, as desired
Twists of lemon (optional)

Steps:

  • In a large teapot, combine the lemon grass with about 6 cups of rapidly boiling, fresh water. Cover the teapot with a thick towel and allow to steep for 5 to 10 minutes, or until very aromatic. Pour into teacups, sweeten and serve with a twist of lemon, if desired.

Steps:

  • Gently bruise - by pounding with a meat melt or rolling pin - the lemongrass.
  • Bring the water to a boil and use to rinse and heat-up a teapot. Add the lemongrass and cover with the water. Allow to seep for a while then pour the tea into small cups and add a little sugar if desired.

Steps:

  • Coarsely chop the bottom 4 inches of the lemongrass stalks.
  • Trim the tops, remove the outside leaves, and save for garnish.
  • In a small saucepan, bring to water to a boil.
  • Add in tea bags and chopped lemongrass; remove from heat and let steep for 10 minutes.
  • Strain; sweeten to taste with sugar, refrigerate until ready to serve.
  • Fill tall chilled glasses with ice; pour the tea over the ice.
  • Garnish each glass with a lemongrass top and a lemon wedge.

  • Bring 4 cups (950 mL) of water to a boil over high heat. Pour your water into a medium-sized saucepan or another similar pot so the water doesn’t boil over once it heats up.
  • Add the lemongrass and continue boiling the water for 5 minutes. Once the water reaches a rapid, rolling boil, it’s time to add the lemongrass. Carefully drop the chopped lemongrass directly into the boiling water.
  • Pour the mixture through a strainer to remove the stalks. After the tea has finished steeping, it’s best to strain it so you don’t accidentally end up drinking any fibers from the lemongrass.
  • Serve right away if you prefer warm tea. A warm cup of lemongrass tea is soothing and delicious in the morning or on a cool day. Once you’ve strained it, you can enjoy the tea as soon as it’s cool enough to drink!
