6 slices bacon, cut into 1/2-inch pieces
4 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 cup ketchup
1/2 cup maple syrup
1/4 cup applesauce
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
1 tablespoon brown sugar
2 pounds chicken wings, split
Kosher or sea salt, to taste
Fresh cracked black pepper, to taste
1 cup all-purpose flour, for dredging
Vegetable oil (or other high flashpoint oil), for frying

Steps:

  • Heat a saucepan over medium heat and cook the bacon until nearly crisp. Add the garlic and cook until the garlic is lightly browned, 1 to 2 minutes. Whisk in the ketchup, maple syrup, applesauce, soy sauce, apple cider vinegar and brown sugar. Reduce heat to low and simmer the sauce for about 1 to 2 minutes or until thickened. Set aside. Rinse the chicken wings and pat them dry. Generously season the chicken with salt and black pepper. Dredge the wings in flour, shaking off any excess flour, and set aside. In a large saucepan or deep fryer, heat the oil to about 375°. Fry the chicken wings in small batches until golden brown, 8 to 10 minutes. Shake off any excess oil and place on paper towels to drain. Continue frying the chicken in batches until all of the wings are cooked. Toss chicken wings with maple-bacon sauce and serve warm.

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Cut off chicken wing tips and snip the skin between the joints. Place in disposable large baking pan. Add the maple syrup, soy sauce, teriyaki sauce, garlic, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper, toss to coat.
  • Place pan on baking sheet and bake for approximately 1 hours, tossing every 15 to 20 minutes. The liquid will gradually evaporate the longer you cook it.
  • After 1 hour, increase the oven temperature to 425 degrees F. Turn wings to coat evenly and cook an additional 45 minutes.

2 to 3 pounds whole chicken wings
1 cup maple syrup
2/3 cup chili sauce
1/2 cup finely chopped onion
2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes

Steps:

  • Cut chicken wings into three sections; discard wing tip section. In a large resealable plastic bag, combine remaining ingredients. Set aside 1 cup for basting and refrigerate. Add chicken to remaining marinade. Seal bag and turn to coat; refrigerate for 4 hours, turning occasionally., Drain and discard marinade. Moisten a paper towel with cooking oil; using long-handled tongs, lightly coat the grill rack. Grill chicken, covered, over medium heat or broil 4 in. from the heat for 12-16 minutes, turning occasionally. Brush with reserved marinade. Grill or broil, uncovered, for 8-10 minutes or until juices run clear, basting and turning several times.

I found this recipe on Food Network. I have not made it yet but wanted to post it so I would have the recipe readily available when the time is right. It sounds like it would be very good. EDITED 2/7/10: I was trying different wing recipes to serve for the Super Bowl this year and realized I had never made this one so I whipped up a batch. It is a "WINNER"! I'm making a triple batch to serve on Super Bowl Sunday.

This is a great way to make delicious chicken quickly and with very few ingredients. It's my husband's favorite. This recipe is one of the results of many experiments with different ways of cooking low cost chicken meals when the price of beef went through the roof, and whole chicken was all we could afford. You can use your oven, counter top rotisserie, grill or campfire to make this. It's very easy.

1 whole chicken
2 apples, Granny Smith are best
1 (16 ounce) package maple bacon
1 teaspoon apple pie spice, Can substitute Cinnamon
1 cup maple syrup

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 375.
  • Rinse the chicken, and remove the giblets. You can discard them, use them to make gravy for mashed potatoes or freeze them for later.
  • Cut the apples into wedges, and sprinkle them with the Apple Pie Spice. Make sure you get the spice on every slice.
  • Put the chicken into a roasting pan, and stuff it with the apples.
  • Layer the Maple Bacon on top of the chicken, covering the enitire top of the chicken.
  • Drizzle with half of the Maple Syrup, and set the other half aside for later.
  • Cover and bake for 1-2 hours, depending on the size of your bird.
  • Uncover and drizzle with the rest of the syrup.
  • Put the chicken back in the oven, and set it to broil for about 10 minutes or until the top looks brown and the bacon looks done.
  • Remove from the oven and serve hot with your favorite sides.
