MAPLE-NUT-CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIE BARS
Maple is a flavor that can go far beyond pancakes, as these nutty, chocolaty, frosted bars prove. They're made with a shortcut start from Betty Crocker™ chocolate chip cookie mix, and get finished with a scratch maple buttercream that's well worth a little bit of extra effort.

Steps:
- Heat oven to 350°F. Spray 9-inch square pan with cooking spray.
- In large bowl, mix cookie mix, 1/2 cup softened butter, the egg and 1/2 teaspoon maple extract with spoon until soft dough forms. Stir in 1/2 cup walnuts. Spread dough evenly in pan.
- Bake 20 to 24 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool completely, about 1 hour 30 minutes.
- In medium bowl, beat powdered sugar, 1/4 cup softened butter, 2 tablespoons of the milk and 1/4 teaspoon maple extract with spoon until smooth and fluffy. If frosting is too stiff to spread, add additional milk, 1 teaspoon at a time. Frost top of bar. Sprinkle 1/4 cup walnuts on top. Cut into 4 rows by 4 rows.
- Store loosely covered.

- In a large bowl, cream the shortening, syrup and sugar until light and fluffy, 5-7 minutes. Beat in the eggs, milk and vanilla. Combine the flour, baking powder and salt; add to creamed mixture and mix well. Remove half the batter to another bowl., Combine melted chocolate and pecans; stir into 1 bowl of batter. Spread into a greased 13x9-in. baking pan. Add coconut to remaining batter. Spread carefully over chocolate batter. , Bake at 350° until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean, about 25 minutes. Cool completely on a wire rack., For frosting, in a small bowl, beat butter until smooth. Gradually add the confectioners' sugar and cocoa. Gradually add syrup, beating until smooth. Fold in marshmallows. Frost bars.

- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
- Mix the dry ingredients together in a large bowl.
- Mix the wet ingredients together in a separate bowl.
- Stir everything together until well combined.
- Pour batter into a well-oiled 8 x 8 baking dish.
- Bake the bars for 10-15 minutes, or until top is set and lightly golden. Don't overbake!

- Preheat oven to 350°. In a large bowl, cream butter and sugars until light and fluffy, 5-7 minutes. Beat in eggs and maple flavoring. In another bowl, whisk flour, baking soda and salt; gradually beat into creamed mixture. Stir in baking chips and pecans., Drop dough by rounded tablespoonfuls 2 in. apart onto ungreased baking sheets. Bake 10-12 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on pans 2 minutes. Remove to wire racks to cool completely. , For glaze, in a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Remove from heat. Gradually beat in confectioners' sugar, syrup and maple flavoring until smooth., Drizzle over cookies; let dry completely. Store between pieces of waxed paper in airtight containers.

- Make the brown butter: melt butter in a clear heavy bottom pot. Once the butter starts to foam, whisk continuously until brown bits start to form. Remove from heat, pour into clean bowl and cool to room temperature (25-30 minutes). Butter should be melted, but cooled.
- Stir together the brown butter and sugars until smooth and well combined. Add each egg and yolk, mixing each time until well combined. Stir in maple syrup, vanilla extract and maple syrup extract. Stir each one until well combined.
- Stir in 1/2 of the dry ingredients to the wet. Mix until mostly combined. Add remaining 1/2, mixing until mostly combined. A few flour streaks is fine. Stir in the chocolate chips or chunks. Stir until mostly combined. Any loose chips or chunks can be placed on top of the cookies onced scooped. Cover the mixing bowl with plastic wrap. Chill cookie dough in the fridge for 1-2 hours. The longer the chill, the more concentrated the flavor. Preheat the oven to 375F about 30 minutes before you intend to bake the cookies.
