Healthy Chocolate Smoothie image

The sweetness of the bananas in this smoothie means you don't need to add any sugar to sweeten the cocoa. This is my go-to for a midday energy boost and kids love it too.

2 very ripe bananas
6 ice cubes
1 cup milk
1 ½ tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
1 tablespoon peanut butter
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Steps:

  • Blend bananas, ice cubes, milk, cocoa powder, peanut butter, and vanilla extract together in a blender on high speed until smooth.

I can't remember where I found this recipe, but it's a great shake/smoothie for when you're on a diet! It's really quick to make if you're in a hurry because you do the prep work the night before. In the morning you just throw it all together in the blender.

125 ml oats
250 ml soymilk (or any other milk)
15 ml cocoa powder
7 1/2 ml ground flax seeds
1 banana, chopped and frozen
2 1/2 ml vanilla extract

Steps:

  • Mix everything together except the banana, and leave in the fridge overnight.
  • When you are ready to eat breakfast, put the mixture in a blender with the banana, and blitz until smooth.

  • Add the dark chocolate to a jug, pour in the milk, then add the chilli powder, cinnamon and cacao powder. Microwave until the mixture is warm and the chocolate has melted (you can do this in a pan if you prefer).
  • Place the oats, banana, almonds, chia seeds, maca powder, the water and approx. a fifth of the milk mixture to your smoothie maker or blender. Add in an extra splash of cold water if you think the liquid is too warm (see warning above about hot liquids and smoothie makers).
