THE PERFECT MARGARITA

The Perfect Margarita image

Mastering the margarita requires a certain amount of practice, but once you dial-in your perfect ratio, it's a really easy cocktail to replicate. The classic recipe is 3 parts tequila, 2 parts triple sec, and 1 part freshly squeezed lime juice, and you should probably start off pretty close to that, but my personal favorite proportions are 4-3-2.

AUTHENTIC MEXICAN MARGARITA

When choosing your tequila, quality is key. Opt for a blanco made from 100% blue agave. Although many people reach for premade sour mix, using fresh lime juice will result in a vastly superior drink.

The creation of the Margarita Recipe cocktail goes back to the year 1942 in a cantina (bar) in the state of Chihuahua, Mexico. It's considered the most popular cocktail in Mexico and you can find it at any bar or restaurant where it's offered as an aperitif. It's usually served in a unique glass.

THE AUTHENTIC MARGARITA

The Authentic Margarita image

Tired of sugar headaches and merciless hangovers? Impress all your friends and try this healthier, authentic margarita recipe this National Margarita Day.

Provided by Maria Daniela Toporek

Time 20m

Number Of Ingredients 6

3 oz. tequila blanco
1.5 oz. Cointreau
7-10 Limes
4 oz. natural lime juice freshly squeezed
Salt
2 cups ice

Steps:

  • Use a citrus squeezer to squeeze 4 oz. of lime juice into a cup and set it aside.
  • Add 3 oz. of tequila and 1.5 oz of Cointreau into a blender. Follow that up with the lime juice from the previous step, 2 cups of ice and blend it!
  • (Optional) Add Salt Around the Rim: Now to set up your glasses, cut a lime into small wedges and use one of them to rub a small amount of lime juice around the rim of your class. The lime juice will help the salt stick around the edges.
  • Pour 2 to 3 tablespoons of salt into a small plate. Grab the glass you just rubbed lime juice on and hold angle it so you can rotate the rim and make sure you've added salt around it evenly.
  • After salting the glasses, finally pour the margarita into your glass. Add a lime wedge to your glass as the final garnish, invite friends, and say cheers.

MEXICAN MARGARITA CHICKEN

Mexican Margarita Chicken image

I made this recipe up one day after work when I wanted an easy dinner and I had to use up the avocado that was going bad. If you want to ommit the Tequilla go ahead (I just added it becuase we had some left over from a St. Patricks day Party). The measurements are really guidelines becuase I jsut sort of threw things in to taste, so feel free to fiddle with them. Yet overall, I think it turned out pretty well. Enjoy!

CLASSIC MEXICAN MARGARITA

Classic Mexican Margarita image

This classic Mexican margarita is the perfect blend of fresh lime juice, blanco tequila, simple syrup and triple sec, all served over ice in a chilled, salted cocktail glass.

Provided by Andres Carnalla

Categories     Beverage

Time 5m

Number Of Ingredients 10

1/2 lime (cut into wedges )
1 tbsp sea salt or Kosher salt (coarse)
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup water
1 cup fresh ice
2 ozs. blanco tequila (also called white or silver tequila) (100% agave)
1 1/2 limes (cut in halves)
1 1/2 ozs. orange liqueur (triple sec)
2 tbsp simple syrup (See recipe below.)
Lime wedges or slices for garnish

Steps:

  • On a dish or cutting board, pour and flatten a pile of coarse salt like sea salt or Kosher salt. Don't use table salt, as it will clump up and make your drink very salty.
  • Cut a lime in half. Reserve one half for the margarita and cut the remaining half into two wedges. Run a lime wedge along the entire rim of the glass. Be sure it's wet enough so the salt can stick.
  • Invert your glass and press into the salt so it sticks to the rim.
  • Place the salted glass upright into the refrigerator to chill as you mix up your margarita.
  • Pour the sugar into a deep sauce pan.
  • Pour the water over the sugar.
  • Place sugar mixture on the stove and set the heat to medium-high.
  • Use a wooden spoon to stir the mixture constantly so the sugar dissolves faster.
  • Once the sugar completely dissolves, remove from the heat.
  • Pour the syrup into a container. You should end up with about one cup of natural syrup. Reserve 2 tablespoons of the syrup for the margarita. Cover and store the rest for another use. The syrup will keep for up to three days.
  • Add ice cubes to a cocktail shaker. If you have big pieces, you can bang them on a hard surface to break them up a bit, but you do want to keep the pieces on the larger side. Ice that's too small will quickly melt and water down your drink.
  • Squeeze the juice from 1 1/2 limes into a small cup or bowl and remove any seeds. Pour the fresh lime juice into the shaker.
  • Next add the sweetener, tequila and triple sec.
  • Place the top back on your shaker and shake vigorously for about 20 seconds to combine.
  • Remove the chilled cocktail glass from the refrigerator.
  • Carefully pour the contents of the shaker into the glass, including the ice.
  • Garnish with a slice of lime.

  • Start by making the simple syrup, if you don't have any on hand. Mix 7 ounces sugar with 7 ounces water. Microwave until the sugar has dissolved. You should have about 9-10 ounces so there will be a little extra for rimming the glasses.
  • When ready to serve, pour the remaining simple syrup in a shallow dish. Pour sea salt (or flake salt) in a second shallow dish. Then dip the glass rims in simple syrup, followed by salt.
  • Add ice to the glasses if desired, and fill a shaker with ice. Add the margarita mix to the shaker and shake for 10-15 seconds. Pour into glasses. Garnish the glasses with sliced limes or oranges and serve. Ole'!

  • Preheat a grill to medium-high heat. Brush the grill with oil and place the pineapple rings flat on the grill, and cook, flipping once, until charred on both sides, about 3 minutes. Set aside to cool while you mix the cocktail.
  • In a large pitcher, add the jalapeño, cilantro and 2 tablespoons of the brown sugar. Using a muddler or the handle of a wooden spoon, begin to muddle or crush the ingredients together. Chop all but 2 pieces of the pineapple (will be used for garnish) into 1-inch pieces and muddle those with the jalapeño mixture. Add the tequila, pineapple juice, lime juice and syrup and stir well to combine. Let sit for at least 10 minutes or place in the refrigerator until ready to serve.
  • In a small saucer, combine the remaining sugar, salt and chile powder. Dip the rims of the margarita glasses into another saucer with water to wet the rims, alternately rub rims with half a lime, then dip into the sugar, salt and chile mixture. Fill each glass with the chunky margarita (making sure you are adding the chunks of muddled fruits and vegetables) and garnish with a wedge of pineapple.
