MINT ICED TEA

Mint Iced Tea image

This fresh brewed mint iced tea beverage recipe from Paula Deen is a southern drink perfect for summer cookouts. Ingredients include fresh mint, lemon, sugar and family size tea bags. Prep time is about 15 minutes and cooking time is 15 minutes on the stove-top.

Provided by Paula Deen

Time 15m

Yield 15

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 quart water
4 family size tea bags
2 cups sugar
1 bunch mint
1 slices for garnish lemon

Steps:

  • In a large pot bring the water to a boil. Remove pot from heat, add the tea bags, cover with a lid, and allow tea to steep in water for 20 minutes. Take a 1 gallon jug and pour the sugar into the jug and cover with some hot tap water. Stir the sugar around to dissolve while the tea is steeping. Once the tea has steeped, remove the lid and the tea bags. Pour the tea into the jug with the sugar, stir, and place the tea bags back into the jug and run them under hot tap water to release any additional flavors. Stir the tea well making sure the sugar dissolves. Fill the jug with cold water to yield 1 gallon.
  • To serve, pour each glass of tea and garnish with a slice of lemon and mint leaves.

ICED SWEET MINT TEA

MINT SWEET ICED TEA

Mint Sweet Iced Tea image

All the mint sweet tea recipes I've come across call for fresh mint, and that can be tough to find sometimes without breaking the bank. I've come by this recipe after quite a bit of experimentation, and the great part is that it can be made just about anywhere, as long as you have the ability to cool the tea back down after brewing!

Provided by mithbarazak

Categories     Beverages

Time 10m

Yield 1 quart, 4-6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 5

4 cups water
1/2 cup sugar
2 green tea bags
1 peppermint tea bag
ice

Steps:

  • Combine the sugar and water in a small saucepan and bring to a boil, stirring until sugar is dissolved.
  • Turn off heat and add tea bags, steeping to desired strength (for me, 3-5 minutes).
  • Remove tea bags and add ice until cool.
  • Serve in a tall glass over ice!

MINTED ICED TEA

Minted Iced Tea image

This "house wine of the South" is literally drunk by the gallon during the spring and summer months here in Memphis. We add mint and simple syrup to ours, to give it the right amount of flavor and sweetness. It's a refreshing "knock-back," and can also be used as a mix for a cocktail (add a little rum or vodka).

Yield serves 8

Number Of Ingredients 5

12 cups water
10 bags tea (preferably Lipton)
1 bunch fresh mint, stems removed, leaves torn or bruised (save a few whole for garnish)
1 cup simple syrup
Lemons, for garnish

Steps:

  • Bring the water to a simmer in a large pot. Remove the pot from the heat and add the tea bags and mint. Allow the tea and mint to steep for at least 10 minutes. Strain the steeped tea into a large glass pitcher, and allow to cool completely. Stir in the simple syrup.
  • Serve the tea over ice in a chilled Mason jar, with a sprig of mint and a lemon wheel for garnish.
  • Simple syrup is just that: simple and sweet. To make 1 cup, stir together (or shake in a bottle) 1 cup of water and 1 cup of sugar until dissolved. This one-to-one ratio ensures that your iced drinks stay cool and sweet. For a richer, sweeter version of simple syrup, you can do two parts sugar to one part boiling water, stirring just until dissolved, then setting aside to cool to room temperature. If you make up a batch, you can store it in your fridge in a well-sealed jar for up to 6 months.
