This is the best cake ever!!! I like to make a frosting with equal parts Butter and Shortening and just enough Powder Sugar to make it thick. It is really yummy!!!!!

3 cups flour
2 cups sugar
6 tablespoons cocoa
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons baking soda
2 tablespoons vinegar
3/4 cup oil
2 teaspoons vanilla
2 cups cold water

Steps:

  • Mix dry together and then add wet ingredients. Bake in a cake pan at 350 degrees for 45 min,.

Millionaire's Cake image

This cake is more of a layered torte, than a frosted cake. It is kept in the refrigerator and is very delicious. I have been making this cake for many years and recently made it for my nephew's 24th birthday. It is his favorite.

1 (20 ounce) can crushed pineapple with juice
1 (18.25 ounce) package yellow cake mix
1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese
1 (12 ounce) container frozen whipped topping, thawed
1 (3.5 ounce) package instant vanilla pudding mix
2 cups milk
1 cup chopped walnuts

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour one 9x13 inch pan.
  • Drain pineapple. Put pineapple in a clean layered cheesecloth and wring out remaining juice. If pineapple is not well drained, it will make the filling runny.
  • Mix and bake cake according to package instructions. Pour 1/2 of the batter into the prepared pan. Discard or find another use for the remaining half of the batter.
  • Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 20 minutes or until done. Let cake cool in pan on a wire rack.
  • Beat softened cream cheese until fluffy. Slowly add milk, combining thoroughly. Add instant pudding and beat until thick. Pudding mixture will thicken when refrigerated. When cake is cool and pudding mixture is thickened you can assemble the cake. Spread pudding mixture on top of the cooled cake. Sprinkle drained pineapple over pudding. Carefully spread thawed frozen whipped topping over all. Sprinkle chopped walnuts over all. Refrigerate. Enjoy!

MISSIONARY CAKE AKA DEPRESSION CAKE

2 cups Cole water
1 cups Raisins
1 cup Brown sugar
1/3 cup Vegetable oil
2 teaspoons Cinnamon
1/4 teaspoons Ground cloves
1 teaspoon Allspice
2 teaspoons Water
1 teaspoon Salt
1 teaspoon Baking soda
2 cups All purpose flour
1 teaspoon Baking powder

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Line a 9x9 baking pan with foil, leaving an overhang.
  • In medium sauscepan over medium high heat, combine water, raisins, brown sugar, vegetable oil and the spices. Bring to a boi and stirring constantly, boil for 3 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool 10 minutes. (I recommend cooling for a lot longer.)
  • Meanwhile, mix the baking soda and salt in water and stir until completely dissolved. Combine four and baking powder and toss with fork to combine.
  • After raisin mixture has cooled, add soda and salt mixture. It will bubble up so stir well. Add the flour mixturre and stir until a stiff dough has formed and raisins are well distributed. Spoon into prepared pan, smooth the top and bake 55 minutes.
  • Remove cake from oven to cooling rack and let cool 5 minutes, then use overhang foil to remove cake from the pan and allow to cool completely.
