MISSOURI BURGER

Found online; sounds unique and tastey! Directions are for cooking them on the stove top, but they would be great grilled too.

1 lb lean ground beef
2 teaspoons onion powder
1/4 cup honey mustard
1 teaspoon garlic powder
2 teaspoons crushed red pepper flakes
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons olive oil
4 slices swiss cheese (optional)
4 hamburger buns

Steps:

  • Mix the ground beef, onion powder, honey mustard, garlic powder, crushed red pepper, salt, and brown sugar in a large bowl. Shape into 4 patties
  • Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Cook the burgers, turning occasionally, to desired temperature, 15 to 20 minutes for well done.
  • Top each patty with a slice of Swiss cheese shortly before removing from the skillet; serve on hamburger buns.

Recipe taken from Coking Under the Guns The Battleship Missouri Cook Book. This is how it is written, so you might wanna scale it down just a bit, that is unless your cooking for a battleship full of men. . . or maybe a little league team .

Number Of Ingredients 8

8 1/2 lbs ground beef
1 cup evaporated milk
1 cup chili sauce
1/2 cup Worcestershire sauce
2 1/2 tablespoons salt
1 1/2 teaspoons pepper
6 teaspoons all-purpose flour, sifted
1 1/2 cups hot water

Steps:

  • Blend all ingredients except flour and water lightly. Shape into 3 oz. patties.
  • Place on baking sheets and bake at 400 degrees F for 15 to 18 minutes; save the drippings.
  • Stir flour into drippings. Add water to make 3 cups of gravy. Cook for 5 minutes after the gravy has thickened. Serve with 1 tablespoons sauce over each patty.

6 heaping tablespoons creamy peanut butter
2 pounds ground beef sirloin
Kosher salt and freshly ground pepper
3 tablespoons unsalted butter
6 soft hamburger buns, split
Lettuce, sliced tomato and mayonnaise, for topping

Steps:

  • Warm the peanut butter in a saucepan over medium-low heat, stirring, until loose, about 2 minutes. Reduce the heat to low; keep warm.
  • Divide the meat into 6 loose balls, then gently flatten into thin patties. Heat a large cast-iron skillet over high heat. Add the patties to the hot skillet, smash them flat with a spatula and season with salt and pepper. Cook, flipping once, until the burgers are well done, 4 to 5 minutes per side.
  • Meanwhile, melt the butter in another skillet over high heat. Place the buns cut-side down in the hot skillet, press them down slightly with another skillet and toast until golden, about 2 minutes. Put the burgers on the bottom buns and spread each with 1 heaping tablespoon warm peanut butter. Top with lettuce and tomato. Spread mayonnaise on the cut side of each top bun, then put on top of the burgers.
