The Best Bunless Burger Recipe for Low Carb Burgers image

The secret to the best bunless burgers is the seasoning. Make your own juicy steakhouse burgers at home with a few simple ingredients and a burger press..

1 pound ground beef
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon Mc Cormicks Montreal Steak Seasoning ((See note in recipe!))
salt and pepper
2 tablespoons bacon drippings or olive oil
4 ounces sliced onion, (nutritional info in the notes)

Steps:

  • Prep: Preheat grill and clean the grate.
  • Method: Break up the ground beef and evenly distribute the Worcestershire sauce and steak seasoning and olive oil if using).
  • Mix gently with your hands to distribute the seasoning and form into three balls. Gently press/pat into patties or use a burger press like I have pictured. If you make a slight depression in the center of your burger, it will help prevent it from puffing up in the middle.
  • Cook: Oil the grate. Season the outside of the burger patties with a light sprinkling of salt and pepper (both sides). Grill to your desired level of doneness. I like mine a little pink in the middle. Serve with your favorite extras but don't forget to count the carbs.
  • Optional: For the caramelized onions... Slice the onions. Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a pan over medium-low heat. When hot, add the onions and saute until softened. Add 1/2 teaspoon of erythritol and cook until beginning to brown or caramelize. This step can take up to 10 minutes.
  • NOTE: Some brands of Montreal Seasoning are saltier than others and people's taste buds are different. You may want to start with half of the amount of seasoning to see how you like it.

1 lb grass-fed extra lean ground beef
1 egg
¾ cup white onions (chopped)
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper (to taste)
1 tsp smoked paprika
3/4 tsp chili powder
1/2 tsp ground cumin
1/2 tsp garlic powder
2 teaspoons extra virgin olive oil
Slices of iceberg lettuces

Steps:

  • Combine all ingredients, except the olive oil, in a large bowl. Mix everything together well.
  • Using your hands divide the mixture into 4-6 burgers.
  • Heat the olive oil in a non-stick grill pan (or simply cook your burger in a BBQ) over a medium-high heat. Cook the burger for 3-5 minutes on each side, or until reach 145°F for medium-rare or 160°F for well-done. Set them aside.
  • To build each burger, top one iceberg lettuce, patty burger, ketchup, two slices of red onions, 2 slices of bacon, 2 slices of tomatoes and top with second iceberg lettuce.

- **fresh ground beef
- **onion, sliced
- **bell pepper sliced, your favorite color
- **fresh jalapeno, sliced
- **mushrooms, sliced
- **thai garlic chile sauce
- **swiss cheese, grated
- **cilantro, fresh chopped

Steps:

  • If you can grind your own burger meat, you will surely taste the difference. Season ground beef with your favorite burger seasonings.
  • Cook in skillet, on griddle or on grill to doneness you prefer.
  • Top burger with thai sauce and grated cheese last 7-8 min of cooking and cover with lid to ensure cheese melts.
  • Add a little olive oil to skillet and cook veggies very quickly over high heat. I like mine to still be a little al denta.
  • Serve with cilantro as a bed or sprinkled on top. Layer burger with veggies, dig in and enjoy a low guilt delicious burger.

  • Start by making the sauce. Combine all of the sauce ingredients in a bowl and mix well with a whisk. Refrigerate while you make the burgers.
  • Form beef into burger patties. You want very thin patties, about 1/4 inch thick. 1 lb of beef will make about 4 of these patties. They will be very large and thin (but will shrink a lot when cooking). Season the patties with salt and pepper on both sides and set aside.
  • Slice onion as noted and heat a medium skillet over medium-low heat and add 1 tbsp of ghee. Add the onion to cook, stirring occasionally, until browned and caramelized. This should take about 15 minutes and be finished about the same time as the burgers. If they cook to fast or finish early, just simmer on low until the burgers are ready.
  • Prep the toppings for the burgers as noted. For the buns, cut the iceberg lettuce head into fourths. Cut off the bottom "stem" of each wedge of lettuce. Remove the thick inner pieces, leaving the outer leaves. You'll split these leaves to form your top and bottom "bun".
