Though I'm all for high- quality prepared sauces and such to use as shortcuts, I've never found a bottled vegan barbecue sauce I really like. But this nearly instant sauce is so easy that I've ended the search. It's especially good with tofu, tempeh, and seitan.

One batch makes the equivalent of 2 larges cans of tomato sauce (4 cups) so I use half the batch and freeze the other half in a freezer bag for next time. I find that I have to add about 25 percent more spice than I did when I used tomatoes.

This is a vinegar based sauce that came from a friend of my fathers. It freezes very well and is great on any barbequed meat. This is his recipe but i always leave the butter out just to save calories. This will seperate so make sure you mix it well.
