CHRISTMAS TREE TREATS
I made this recipe to try to see how well it was. It was one of the best cookies I have ever had. It may take awhile. However, I think it is worth the wait. Decorate with icing and decors as desired.

Steps:
- Beat 3/4 cup and 2 tablespoons butter and sugar together in a bowl using an electric mixer on medium speed until smooth. Add almond extract to butter mixture and beat until well blended.
- Whisk flour, baking powder, and salt together in a bowl. Gradually add flour mixture, about 1/4 cup at a time, to butter mixture, beating well after each addition until dough is just mixed. Beat green food coloring into dough until desired color is reached. Divide dough in half and shape each half into a 1-inch wide log. Wrap each log in plastic wrap and refrigerate until firm, about 2 hours.
- Preheat oven to 275 degrees F (135 degrees C). Lightly grease baking sheets or line with parchment paper. Arrange wooden sticks on prepared baking sheet.
- Cut dough into 1/4-inch thick slices. Arrange 3 slices next to each other on each wooden stick, about halfway up the stick. Place 2 dough slices above the 3 dough slices, overlapping middle slices slightly, forming a tree-shape.
- Bake in the preheated oven until edges are lightly browned, about 30 minutes. Cool cookies on baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Steps:
- For the dip: Combine the cream cheese, sour cream, horseradish, lemon juice, lemon zest, granulated garlic, 1/4 teaspoon salt and a generous grinding of black pepper in the bowl of a food processor. Process until well combined and smooth. Transfer the dip to a medium bowl and fold in the chives and parsley. Cover and refrigerate until ready to serve.
- Bring a large pot of salted water to boil and prepare an ice bath by filling a large bowl with ice water. Add the broccoli to the boiling water and blanch until bright green and crisp tender, 2 to 3 minutes. Remove with a strainer to the ice bath. Repeat with the cauliflower. Drain the vegetables well and pat them very dry.
- To build the tree, make a triangle of broccoli florets in the center of a serving platter. Place the cucumber piece, skin side up, at the base of the tree as a stump and scatter the cauliflower on either side. Decorate the tree with tomatoes, cucumber slices and pepper strips and stars, leaving one star for the top.
CHRISTMAS TREE "FOOD"
DO NOT DRINK THIS OR CONSUME IT IN ANY WAY - this is a mixture used to water your Christmas tree to keep it fresh throughout the season. If you have pets or small children who may get into the mixture at the bottom of the tree, do not use the bleach. I leave it out because I have a cat who gets into the water at the bottom of the tree. The vinegar helps the tree to take in more of the water, the corn syrup acts as an energy source for the tree, and the bleach helps to prevent mold and fungi from growing in the water or on the base of the tree. The copper in the penny acts as a fungicide and an acidifier. The Food.com computer will let me put bleach in as an ingredient (weird), but it won't let me put "a penny" in as an ingredient, so just know that "1 penny" should be listed in the ingredients list. This mixture also helps to keep cut flowers fresh.

Steps:
- DISCLAIMER: This should go without saying, but - DO NOT DRINK THIS. THIS MIXTURE IS NOT MEANT TO BE CONSUMED BY HUMANS OR ANIMALS. IT SHOULD ONLY BE USED TO WATER YOUR CHRISTMAS TREE.
- IMPORTANT: DO NOT MIX VINEGAR AND BLEACH TOGETHER DIRECTLY - IF YOU MIX THEM DIRECTLY THE MIXTURE WILL PRODUCE TOXIC VAPORS. MIX THE VINEGAR WITH THE WATER FIRST, THEN PROCEED WITH THE REST OF THE RECIPE INSTRUCTIONS.
- In a large bowl, mix together the water and the vinegar.
- Add the corn syrup or the sugar, and stir well until all is combined or the sugar is dissolved. If you are using sugar, it may help to use half hot water first to dissolve the sugar, then add the second half, using cold water.
- Add the bleach, if using, and mix well to combine.
- Place your Christmas tree securely in the Christmas tree stand.
- Place a penny in the reservoir of the Christmas tree stand, then fill it with the water mixture.
- Store the remainder of the mixture in a gallon jug, and check the tree every day to see if it needs more of the mixture. Christmas trees which are not watered and which dry out become fire hazards, so make sure your tree is kept watered. If you have used bleach in the mixture label the container appropriately so that no one will drink from it.

Steps:
- Butter an 8 1/2-inch cake or springform pan; set aside. Sift together flour and salt into a small bowl; set aside. Place butter in bowl of electric mixer fitted with paddle attachment. Cream until fluffy, 3 to 5 minutes. Add sugar, and continue to beat until very light in color and fluffy, occasionally scraping down the sides of the bowl with a spatula, about 2 minutes more. Add vanilla, if using. Add flour mixture, and combine on low speed, scraping with spatula if necessary, until flour is just incorporated and dough sticks together when squeezed with fingers.
- Pat dough into prepared pan. If rolling out dough to cut into shapes, form into a flat disk; wrap in plastic. Chill until firm, at least 1 hour.
- Roll basic dough out on a lightly floured surface 1/4 inch thick. Cut into 24 tree shapes with 3-inch cutter. Cut holes in half of the trees with a 1/4-inch round pastry tip or straw; chill. Heat oven to 325 degrees. Bake until firm and just starting to color, 10 to 15 minutes. Cool completely before sandwiching together with raspberry or strawberry jam.
