24 oz. chocolate chips
2 1/2 c. Rice Krispies
Pinch of flaky sea salt

Steps:

  • Line an 8"-x-8" baking pan with parchment paper.
  • Over a double-boiler, or in a microwave using 50 percent power, melt chocolate chips. Transfer to a large bowl and immediately add in Rice Krispies. Using a plastic spatula, fold the chocolate and cereal together until the cereal is fully coated in chocolate. Pour into prepared pan.
  • Sprinkle with flaky sea salt and refrigerate until set, about 30 minutes. Slice into bars and serve cold or at room temperature.

Plan ahead and beat your cravings with these power crunch snack bars, made with Orville Redenbacher Smart Pop microwaveable popcorn. The popcorn is 100 per cent whole grain, high in fibre and now made without any artificial colours, flavours or preservatives.

nonstick cooking spray
1 1/2 cups quick-cooking rolled oats
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 mini bag orville redenbacher's smart pop microwaveable popcorn (34 g)
3/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/2 cup margarine
1 tablespoon water
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3/4 cup dried cranberries

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375°F. Spray 15x10-inch shallow baking pan with cooking spray. Combine oats, flour, baking soda, cinnamon and salt in medium bowl; set aside.
  • Prepare popcorn according to package directions. Remove all un-popped kernels; set aside.
  • Combine brown sugar and margarine in large bowl using electric mixer on high speed. Add water and vanilla; beat until light and fluffy. Gradually add flour mixture; blend well. Reduce speed to low and add cranberries.
  • Cover hands with plastic gloves or sandwich-size plastic bags. Incorporate popped corn into cookie dough. Spread mixture in pan. Bake 10 to 12 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Cool before cutting into 24 bars. Store in tightly sealed container.

1 cup quick-cooking rolled oats
½ cup whole wheat flour
½ cup wheat and barley nugget cereal (e.g. Grape-Nuts™)
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 beaten egg
¼ cup applesauce
¼ cup honey
3 tablespoons brown sugar
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
¼ cup unsalted sunflower seeds
¼ cup chopped walnuts
1 (7 ounce) bag chopped dried mixed fruit

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). Line a 9 inch square baking pan with aluminum foil. Spray the foil with cooking spray.
  • In a large bowl, stir together the oats, flour, cereal, and cinnamon. Add the egg, applesauce, honey, brown sugar, and oil. Mix well. Stir in the sunflower seeds, walnuts, and dried fruit. Spread mixture evenly in the prepared pan.
  • Bake 30 minutes, or until firm and lightly browned around the edges. Let cool. Use the foil to lift from the pan. Cut into bars or squares, and store in the refrigerator.
