1 sheet frozen puff pastry
1/2 cup almond paste {156g}
1 egg yolk, white reserved
1/4 cup packed brown sugar {2oz}
2 teaspoons milk
1 egg white
Sugar, for sprinkling

Spread filling over 1 pastry half*. Place remaining pastry half on top of filling. Using the fluted pastry wheel, cut dough crosswise into fourteen 1" wide strips. Then cut each strip in half crosswise to make 28 pieces. Twist each piece twice. Place twists about 2" apart on cookie sheets lined with foil or parchment paper. Brush twists with slightly beaten egg white. Sprinkle with sugar {coarse sugar if available} Bake 14-15 minutes or until golden. Transfer to wire racks to cool. Serve with Chocolate Dipping Sauce. *Almond filling will be very stiff. To make spreading easier, drop a dollop of filling uniformly over pastry. Spray a piece of waxed paper with non-stick cooking spray. Press almond paste evenly over entire dough. Spray waxed paper as often as necessary to prevent filling from sticking.

Bow Ties with Sausage, Tomatoes and Cream image

A friend gave this recipe to me a few years back, and my family can't seem to get enough of it. It sounds strange with cream in it, but that just enhances the flavor and texture. This is a very easy recipe.

SAUSAGE AND BOW TIES

Sausage and Bow Ties image

This is a good pasta recipe that can be whipped up quickly on those busy nights when the kids have activities. When I have more time, I use fresh chopped tomatoes. The sausage is easier to slice if you stick it in the freezer for about 20-30 minutes to firm it up a bit. Cook time includes pasta cooking time.

Yield Serves 2

Number Of Ingredients 9

4 slices of bacon, chopped fine
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 large onion, chopped
1/2 pound large farfalle (bow tie pasta)
1 tomato (about 1/2 pound), chopped
1/4 cup water
1/4 teaspoon dried hot red pepper flakes, or to taste
1/3 cup finely chopped fresh parsley leaves
1/4 cup freshly grated Parmesan

  • In a deep skillet cook the bacon over moderate heat, stirring, until it is crisp and transfer it with a slotted spoon to a bowl. Pour off all but 1 tablespoon of fat from the skillet, add the oil, and in the fat cook the onion over moderate heat, stirring, until it is golden brown. In a kettle of salted boiling water cook the pasta until it is al dente. While the pasta is cooking, stir the tomato into the onion mixture with the 1/4 cup water, the red pepper flakes, and salt to taste, simmer the sauce, stirring, for 5 minutes, and stir in the parsley and the bacon. Drain the pasta well, add it to the sauce, and toss it well. Add the Parmesan and toss the pasta well.
