ground black pepper to taste
1 tablespoon butter, plus more as needed
4 slices whole wheat bread

Steps:

  • Whisk eggs, Parmesan cheese, milk, and black pepper in a shallow bowl until light and fluffy, about 1 minute.
  • Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
  • Dip both sides of each slice of bread in the egg mixture and place in the skillet. Cook until golden brown, 2 to 3 minutes per side. Transfer to a warmed plate and dot with butter to serve.

Make this amazing savoury french toast for brunch, breakfast, lunch, dinner, whatever! It is so easy and simple, you'll want to make it every day. Enjoy!

Number Of Ingredients 14

45ml (3 tbsp) vegetable oil
45ml (3 tbsp) butter
4 onions, peeled and sliced
300g (10oz) mushrooms, cleaned and quartered
150ml (5fl oz) white wine
150ml (5fl oz) crème fraîche
Salt and pepper, to taste
4 eggs
125ml (½ cup) milk
15ml (1 tbsp) Dijon mustard
4 slices of thick white bread
5ml (1 tsp) icing sugar
4 spring onions, washed and chopped
12 cherry tomatoes, washed

Steps:

  • Heat 15ml (1 tbsp) oil and 15ml (1 tbsp) butter in a frying pan.
  • Fry the onions gently for 5 minutes or until softened.
  • Add mushrooms and cook for 3 minutes until the mushrooms are cooked.
  • Add the wine, turn up the heat and let the liquid sizzle down to half its quantity.
  • Stir in the crème fraîche and season to taste.
  • Lower the heat to minimum in order to keep it warm while you fry the bread.
  • Whisk the eggs with the milk and mustard in a large bowl. Season generously with salt and pepper.
  • Soaking the bread slices in the milk mixture.
  • Heat the remaining butter and oil [30ml (2 tbsp), respectively] in a large frying pan.
  • When the butter-oil mixture starts to sizzle, arrange the soaked bread slices in the pan and fry them on both sides for about 3 minutes each, or until golden brown.
  • Remove the French toast from the heat and sprinkle with a light dusting of icing sugar on both sides.
  • Place each piece of French toast on a plate and divide the mushroom sauce evenly.
  • Sprinkle spring onions on top and serve with cherry tomatoes. Enjoy!

10 slices French bread (1 inch thick)
1 pound bulk pork sausage
8 large eggs
2 cups 2% milk
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1 tablespoon minced chives
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Additional minced chives

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350°. Arrange bread in a single layer in a greased 13x9-in. baking dish. In a large skillet, cook sausage over medium heat 6-8 minutes or until no longer pink, breaking into crumbles; drain. , In a large bowl, whisk eggs, milk, Parmesan, chives and pepper; pour over bread. Add sausage; sprinkle with cheese. , Bake, uncovered, 25-30 minutes or until edges are golden and a knife inserted in the center comes out clean. Let stand 5 minutes before cutting. Sprinkle with additional chives., To Make Ahead: Prepare casserole as directed. Refrigerate, covered, several hours or overnight. To use, preheat oven to 350°. Remove casserole from refrigerator while oven heats. Bake, as directed. Sprinkle with additional chives.

This savory french toast is great to serve at brunch. It's easy to make, and full of flavor.

3 large eggs
1/4 cup whole milk
1 teaspoon coarse ground black pepper
1 tablespoon freeze dried parsley
6 slices frozen store-bought garlic toast ((such as Pepperidge Farm Texas Toast)- defrosted)

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, mix together the eggs, milk, black pepper and parsley.
  • Transfer the egg mixture into a flat bottom bowl. I often use a 9x13 baking pan to dip multiple slices of toast at once. Set aside.
  • Poke each of the garlic toast about 10 times with a fork on each side. This will help the egg mixture soak in.
  • Heat a skillet on medium heat.
  • In the meantime, dip the toast slices in the egg mixture. Make sure to soak each side at least 10 seconds. You can also soak it longer.
  • When the skillet is hot, carefully transfer the egg dipped toasts onto the skillet. Fit as many as you can comfortably. Cook about 4 minutes on each side, until both surfaces are browned and the toast is cooked through.Finish cooking the rest.
  • Serve immediately with a handful of parmesan cheese and extra parsley. Or, use your favorite toppings.

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Whisk 4 eggs, 1 1/2 cups half-and-half or milk, 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, 1 teaspoon sugar and a pinch of salt in a shallow bowl. Heat 1/2 tablespoon butter in a nonstick skillet over medium heat. Working in batches, dip 6 thick slices white bread, challah or brioche in the egg mixture and cook in the skillet until golden, 2 to 3 minutes per side, adding more butter as needed. Transfer to a baking sheet and bake until puffed, 8 to 10 minutes. Meanwhile, melt 4 tablespoons butter in the same skillet until browned, about 5 minutes. 1 (6 ounce) French baguette, sliced into 1/2-inch rounds
2 large eggs
2 medium red onions, finely chopped
2 medium tomatoes, cored and diced
½ cup chopped fresh mushrooms
2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
1 (1 inch) piece fresh ginger, finely chopped
½ cup grated Cheddar cheese, divided
½ teaspoon dried sage
salt and ground black pepper to taste
¼ cup real bacon bits

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Arrange baguette slices in the bottom of a casserole dish.
  • Beat eggs well in a bowl. Add onions, tomatoes, mushrooms, garlic, and ginger in a bowl. Sprinkle 2 tablespoons of Cheddar cheese on top and mix until well combined. Add sage, salt, and pepper. Pour egg mixture over the baguette slices and sprinkle with bacon bits.
