1 1/2 lb boneless beef sirloin tip steak, cut into 1-inch pieces
1 jar (12 oz) beef gravy
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
1 package (8 oz) sliced fresh mushrooms (3 cups)
2 tablespoons Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons water
4 medium baking potatoes

Steps:

  • In 3- to 3 1/2-quart slow cooker, mix all ingredients except flour, water and potatoes.
  • Cover; cook on Low heat setting 6 to 8 hours.
  • In small bowl, mix flour and water; stir into beef mixture. Increase heat setting to High. Cover; cook 15 to 20 minutes or until thickened.
  • Meanwhile, pierce potatoes all over with fork. In microwave oven, arrange potatoes in spoke pattern with narrow ends in center. Microwave 12 to 14 minutes, turning once, until tender. Cover; let stand 5 minutes.
  • Split cooked potatoes; mash slightly with fork. Spoon beef and mushroom mixture over potatoes.

1 boneless beef rump or tip roast (3- to 4-lb)
1 teaspoon salt
2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
8 oz small whole fresh mushrooms
1/2 cup sun-dried tomatoes in oil, drained, chopped
1/2 cup reduced-fat Italian dressing

Steps:

  • Spray 12-inch nonstick skillet with cooking spray. If beef roast comes in netting or is tied, do not remove. Sprinkle beef with salt and garlic. Place beef in skillet; cook over medium-high heat 5 to 6 minutes, turning occasionally, until brown on all sides.
  • Spray 4- to 5-quart slow cooker with cooking spray. Place mushrooms in cooker. Place beef on mushrooms. Spread tomatoes over beef. Pour dressing over mixture in cooker.
  • Cover; cook on Low heat setting 9 to 11 hours.
  • Remove beef from cooker; place on cutting board. Remove netting or strings; slice beef. Serve mushrooms and juices with beef.

This slow cooker recipe has been developed to be rich and full of the hearty flavor you long for in beef and mushroom stew.

¾ cup all-purpose flour, divided
1 tablespoon dried oregano
salt and ground black pepper to taste
3 pounds cubed beef stew meat
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 cup red wine, divided
29 ounces frozen pearl onions, thawed
2 cups chopped fresh mushrooms
8 medium baby red potatoes
3 large carrots, chopped
3 stalks celery, chopped
1 (14.5 ounce) can beef broth
1 ½ cups boiling water
4 cubes beef bouillon

Steps:

  • Combine 1/4 cup flour, oregano, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Add beef and toss to coat.
  • Heat olive oil in a cast iron skillet over medium-high heat heat. Brown beef in the hot oil on all sides, 5 to 7 minutes. Transfer meat to the bottom of a slow cooker. Do not clean the skillet.
  • Pour 1/2 cup red wine into the skillet and add pearl onions and mushrooms. Saute over medium-high heat until softened, 5 to 7 minutes. Be sure to scrape the meat bits into the mixture with a wooden spoon. Reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes.
  • Stir potatoes, carrots, and celery into the slow cooker. Add beef broth and remaining wine. Season with salt and pepper.
  • Cover and cook until beef is no longer pink in the center and vegetables are tender, on Low, 6 to 8 hours, or High, 4 to 6 hours. Near the end of cooking time, whisk boiling water, remaining flour, and bouillon together; stir into the pot and allow sauce to thicken.

2 medium onions, chopped

2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
3 garlic cloves, minced
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
2 tablespoons cornstarch

1 cup sour cream
Hot cooked egg noodles

  • Cut steak into 3x1/2-in. strips. In a 5- or 6-qt. slow cooker, combine next 9 ingredients. Stir in steak strips.
