I got this recipe from my mother and have taken it to a number of potlucks. It always receives raves. Even non-salmon lovers like this appetizer.

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 (7 ounce) can salmon, drained and flaked
1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
1 tablespoon lemon juice
3 tablespoons finely chopped green onions
2 teaspoons prepared horseradish
¼ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon hot pepper sauce
¼ teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
½ cup chopped walnuts
¼ cup chopped fresh parsley

Steps:

  • In a medium bowl, mix salmon, cream cheese, lemon juice, green onions, horseradish, salt, hot pepper sauce and Worcestershire sauce. Form the mixture into a ball and wrap in plastic. Chill in the refrigerator 3 hours, or until firm.
  • On a large piece of wax paper, mix walnuts and fresh parsley. Roll the ball in the walnuts and parsley until thoroughly coated. Chill in the refrigerator until serving.

1/2 cup butter (or margarine)
2 tablespoons milk
2 teaspoons steak sauce
1 cup finely chopped pecans, toasted

Steps:

  • Combine Cheddar cheese, cream cheese and butter in a medium mixing bowl and bring to room temperature.
  • Add milk and steak sauce and beat until fluffy.
  • Cover and chill for 4 to 24 hours.
  • Shape mixture into a ball. Roll in the finely chopped pecans.
  • Serve with assorted crackers.

  • Combine first 5 ingredients in a medium bowl; beat at medium speed with mixer until smooth.
  • Cover and chill at least 3 hours.
  • Shape mixture into a ball.
  • Combine pecans and parsley; roll cheese ball in pecan mixture.
  • Let stand at room temp at least 30 minutes before serving.

1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened
2 tablespoons sweet white wine
2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 to 2 drops hot pepper sauce
2 cups (8 ounces) finely shredded sharp cheddar cheese
2/3 cup chopped smoked almonds
Assorted crackers

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, beat the first 5 ingredients until smooth. Stir in cheese. Shape into a ball; roll in almonds. Wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour. Serve with crackers.

2 cups shredded smoked Gouda cheese, room temperature
2 packages (8 ounces each) cream cheese, room temperature
1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, room temperature
2 tablespoons milk
2 teaspoons steak sauce
1 cup toasted chopped walnuts or pecans
Crackers, for serving

Steps:

  • Place Gouda, cream cheese, butter, milk, and steak sauce in the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with a paddle attachment; mix until well combined. Transfer mixture to refrigerator; let chill overnight. Roll cheese mixture into a ball. Place nuts in a shallow dish. Roll cheese ball in nuts to fully coat. Serve with crackers.

  • Start by checking the salmon for bones. I remove the skin and discard, then use two forks to shred it and see if there are any bones. Sometimes I find a few, sometimes I find none.
  • Add the salmon, cream cheese, green onions, lemon juice and pepper to a large bowl and blend together using a hand held electric mixer (or blend together using a stand mixer and with the blade attachment).
  • Form the salmon cream cheese into a ball. Spread the pecans on to a plate and roll the ball into the nuts, you may need to place the nuts on with your hands.
  • Place on a serving platter with desired dippers. I love wheat thins, raincoast crisp crackers, but often serve with a cut up sourdough baguette.
