TOTALLY TASTY OVERNIGHT FRENCH TOAST



Totally Tasty Overnight French Toast image

"I love to serve this when my family is in town. t's a real crowd-pleaser - and have 13 grandchildren, so would know!" says Nancy.

Number Of Ingredients 8

12 large eggs
2 cups whole milk
1 cup heavy cream
1 stick salted butter, melted
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
Pinch of salt
1 cup pure maple syrup
1 16-ounce loaf challah bread, sliced

Steps:

  • Whisk the eggs, milk, heavy cream, melted butter, cinnamon and salt in a large bowl.
  • Pour 1 cup maple syrup into the bottom of a 9-by-13-inch baking dish. Place the bread slices on top of the maple syrup, shingling them in the pan. Pour the egg mixture on top. Cover tightly with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight.
  • Preheat the oven to 350˚. Uncover the French toast and bake until puffed, golden brown and cooked through, about 1 hour. Let rest for 10 minutes before serving.

  • mix eggs, milk and cinnamon into large bowl (large enough for bread to fit into).
  • swirl bread around egg mix until both sides are completely covered.
  • cook over medium heat until both sides are golden brown and no longer wet.

½ cup brown sugar
¼ teaspoon ground allspice
½ teaspoon ground nutmeg

Steps:

  • In a medium bowl, blend the cream cheese with brown sugar, allspice, nutmeg and cinnamon
  • Spread 4 slices bread with the cream cheese mixture, and top with remaining bread slices, creating sandwiches.
  • Mix eggs and milk in a shallow bowl. Dip bread into the egg and milk to coat thoroughly.
  • Melt butter in a medium skillet over medium high heat. Cook coated bread slices 2 to 4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown.

Old-style French toast is too decadent to fit into most diets, especially them snooty Frenchmen. So here's my favorite way to make my cake and eat it too. I use Arnold's 100% whole wheat, which soaks up the mixture beautifully and, with each slice having 90cal, 3g fiber, and 4g protien, means two slices stack up pretty well against your favorite health cereal.

2 slices 100% whole wheat bread
2 egg whites
1/2 cup skim milk
1/8 teaspoon cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon sugar, I find it sweet enough from the milk (optional)
1/2 banana, sliced

Steps:

  • Spray and begin heating a nonstick skillet on med-high.
  • Whisk together egg whites, spices, vanilla, sugar (if using) and milk in a bowl or small dish.
  • Slice your bread however you desire.
  • Dip and soak your bread until most of the mixture is absorbed (it should be a little soggy).
  • Cook bread slices on the skillet, flipping two or three times, until nice and crispy on the outside. This may take up to 4-6 minutes per side, since the bread has absorbed more than normal french toast bread.
  • Put banana slices on top of bread, and, if you feel like adding the calories, a bit of maple syrup.

Steps:

  • Place bread in a greased 13x9-in. baking dish. In a large bowl, beat eggs, milk, vanilla and cinnamon; pour over the bread. Cover and refrigerate overnight. Remove from the refrigerator 30 minutes before baking. , Meanwhile, in a bowl, cream butter, brown sugar and syrup until smooth; spread over bread. Sprinkle with nuts. 1 tablespoon butter
4 crackers graham cracker, crushed
egg, 4
1 cup milk
1 tablespoon vanilla
1 tablespoon cinnamon
2 tablespoons chocolate, or chocolate-hazelnut spread, melted
2 tablespoons marshmallow fluff
mini marshmallow
chocolate syrup
mini chocolate chip, optional

Steps:

  • Whisk eggs, cinnamon, vanilla and milk together in medium-large bowl to create egg wash.
  • Crush graham crackers into crumbs.
  • Dunk bread in egg wash then cover in crumbs until evenly coated.
  • Melt butter in a skillet on medium-low heat and cook bread for 2-3 minutes or until crumbs are crispy and bread is more solid.
  • Once you flip them over once spread fluff on one slice and melted chocolate on the other.
  • Press slices together and stack.
  • Garnish with mini marshmallows, mini chocolate chips (optional) and chocolate syrup.
  • Enjoy!
