SWEET AND SPICY SALMON



Sweet and Spicy Salmon image

The best sweet and spicy salmon with a homemade spice rub made with brown sugar and chili powder. Ready in less than 10 minutes and delicious.

2 tbsp brown sugar
1 tbsp chili powder
1 tsp ground cumin
1/2 tsp ground ginger
1/2 tsp paprika
1/4 tsp salt
1/8 tsp pepper
36 oz salmon filets (wild if possible)
1 tbsp olive oil

Steps:

  • In a small bowl, mix together all of the dry spices.
  • Spray each piece of salmon with cooking spray and rub the spice rub onto the fish.
  • In a pan: Using a saute pan, heat 1 tbsp of olive oil over medium heat. Add the salmon, skin side down, and cook on one side for 4-5 minutes. Flip the salmon and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until done to your liking. For medium cooked salmon, turn the heat off when you flip the fish and let it continue to cook in the pan for 2-3 minutes.
  • On the grill: Place the salmon on the grill skin side down. Cook for 4-5 minutes until it is becoming pink and opaque on the sides. Flip and cook for 2-5 minutes to the level of doneness you prefer. For easier flipping, place the salmon on foil to be sure it won't stick to the grill.

Crispy and Easy Pan Seared Spice Crusted Salmon Recipe with Avocado Salsa image

This deliciously easy and crispy Pan Seared Salmon recipe is flaky tender on the inside with a spicy crusted skin on the outside and topped with a fresh medley of avocado salsa made with fresh tomato, red onion, and more. Healthy pan fried salmon is delicious served with rice or cauliflower rice for an easy dinner at home!

2 teaspoons olive oil
1 ¼ pounds salmon fillets
½ teaspoon garlic powder
½ teaspoon cumin
1 teaspoon smoked paprika
1 teaspoon chili powder
1 teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
1 cup diced avocado
½ cup diced tomato
2 tablespoons minced red onion
2 tablespoons chopped cilantro
2 teaspoons lime juice

Steps:

  • For the salmon: In a small bowl, combine the garlic powder, cumin, paprika, chili powder, salt and pepper. Sprinkle the seasoning mixture over the salmon.
  • In a large pan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the salmon, spice side down, and cook for 4-6 minutes per side or until done.
  • For the salsa: Place the avocado, tomato, red onion, cilantro and lime juice in a bowl. Gently toss to combine and season with salt.
  • Spoon the salsa over the salmon and serve.

Spicy Pan-Seared Salmon image

I made this salmon to accompany "Zataran's Black Beans and Rice". It was a quick and easy fix for a busy workday dinner. The salmon turns out juicy on the inside, crispy and brown on the outside and spicy from the combination of seasonings. If you desire to tone it down a notch, cut the amount of cayenne pepper in half. I served each filet atop one serving of "Black Beans and Rice".

2 salmon fillets, skin removed
2 tablespoons olive oil
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper, ground
1/4 teaspoon sweet paprika, ground
1/4 teaspoon black pepper, freshly ground
1/4 teaspoon salt

Steps:

  • Drizzle olive oil into a medium skillet over medium-high heat.
  • In a small bowl, combine spices. Season all sides of salmon filets. Add to skillet when oil is glistening hot.
  • Cook for 5-7 minutes on each side or until a crispy, thin brown outside layer forms and fish flakes easily when fork-tested. Do not over-cook, or salmon will be tough.
