SEASONED BAKED TORTILLA STRIPS



Seasoned Baked Tortilla Strips image

Crunchy homemade seasoned and baked tortilla strips. A perfect topping for salads, soups and more!

8 small corn tortillas
4 tsp vegetable oil
1 tsp chili powder
1/4 tsp onion powder
1/4 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp ground black pepper
Dash cayenne pepper

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375°F.
  • Line a baking sheet with a silicone baking mat or parchment paper.
  • Cut corn tortillas into 1/2-inch strips. Add to a large bowl, toss with vegetable oil to coat. Sprinkle with seasonings. Toss to coat tortilla strips evenly.
  • Transfer to prepared baking sheet. Bake for 5-10 minutes. Toss and return to the oven. Continue baking for an additional 5-10 minutes or until desired crispness is reached.
  • Cool completely before storing in an airtight container.

6 flour tortillas (8 inches)
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion salt or onion powder
Dash to 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper, optional

Steps:

  • Brush butter over one side of each tortilla. Combine the seasonings; lightly sprinkle 1/4 teaspoon over each tortilla. Make two stacks of tortillas, with three in each stack. Using a serrated knife, cut each stack into nine thin strips. , Place in an ungreased 15x10x1-in. baking pan. Bake at 400° for 8-10 minutes or until lightly browned. Serve warm.

1 large onion, chopped
1 cup water
2 to 3 tablespoons chili powder
1-1/2 teaspoons salt

1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
2 cups salsa, divided
10 flour tortillas (8 inches), cut into 3/4-inch strips, divided
1 cup sour cream
2 cans (15-1/4 ounces each) whole kernel corn, drained
4 cups shredded part-skim mozzarella cheese

Steps:

  • In a large skillet, cook beef and onion over medium heat until meat is no longer pink; drain. Stir in the water, chili powder, salt, pepper and garlic powder. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; simmer, uncovered, for 10 minutes. , Place 1/4 cup salsa in each of two greased 8-in. square baking dishes. Top each with a fourth of the tortillas and 1/4 cup salsa. , Divide the meat mixture, sour cream and corn between the two casseroles. 1 tbsp sunflower oil
1 onion , sliced
1 red chilli , deseeded and shredded
2 tsp curry spice (we used coriander, cumin and turmeric)
300g cherry tomato
500g cooked potato , sliced
bunch coriander , stalks finely chopped, leaves roughly chopped
8 eggs , beaten

Steps:

  • Heat the oil in a large frying pan. Fry the onion and half the chilli for 5 mins until softened. Tip in the spices, fry for 1 min more, then add the cherry tomatoes, potatoes and coriander stalks to the pan. Season the eggs well, pour over the top of the veg and leave to cook gently for 8-10 mins until almost set.
  • Heat the grill and flash the tortilla underneath for 1-2 mins until the top is set. Scatter the coriander leaves and remaining chilli over the top, slice into wedges and serve with a green salad.

Steps:

  • Put oven racks in upper and lower thirds of oven and preheat oven to 375°F.
  • Lightly brush 2 large baking pans with oil. Whisk 1/4 cup oil with spices and salt and brush 1 side of each tortilla with it. Make 3 (4-tortilla) stacks and cut stacks into 1/4-inch-wide strips.
