TEQUILA GRAPEFRUIT MARTINI



Tequila Grapefruit Martini image

Number Of Ingredients 7

8 ounces silver tequila, such as Herradura
4 ounces pink grapefruit juice, plus more for the rims
2 ounces dry vermouth
10 dashes grapefruit bitters
1 tiny splash fresh orange juice
Sanding sugar, for the rims
Candied grapefruit rind, for garnish

Steps:

  • Combine the tequila, grapefruit juice, vermouth, bitters and orange juice in a cocktail shaker. Fill the shaker with ice and shake well.
  • Dip the rims of martini or coupe glasses in grapefruit juice and then in sanding sugar. Strain the cocktail into the glasses and garnish with candied grapefruit rind. Serve immediately.

Steps:

  • In a pitcher or a cocktail shaker, combine the tequila and the ice cubes and stir or shake 20 times. Place the Triple Sec in a chilled cocktail glass, swirl it around to coat the inside of the glass, and discard it. Strain the tequila into the glass. Thread the twist of lime and the strip of chile onto the cocktail skewer, perch it on the rim of the glass, and serve at once.

Steps:

  • In a pitcher or a cocktail shaker, combine the tequila and the ice cubes and stir or shake 20 times.
  • Place the Triple Sec in a chilled cocktail glass, swirl it around to coat the inside of the glass, and discard it.
  • Strain the tequila into the glass.
  • Thread the twist of lime and the strip of chile onto the cocktail skewer, perch it on the rim of the glass, and serve at once.
  • This recipe yields 1 martini.

1/2 ounce dry vermouth
2 tablespoons fresh pink-grapefruit juice, plus a wedge and a twist for serving
10 to 12 dashes grapefruit or orange bitters, such as Fee Brothers
Edible silver flakes (optional; available at nycake.com) and sanding sugar, for serving

Steps:

  • Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with ice. Add tequila, vermouth, grapefruit juice, and bitters. Cover and shake several times.
  • Stir together silver flakes and sugar on a small plate. Run grapefruit wedge along the rim of a chilled martini glass. Dip rim in sugar mixture to evenly coat. Strain tequila mixture into glass, add grapefruit twist, and serve.
