THE $250 COOKIE RECIPE
Almost everybody has heard the one about the woman lunching at the Neiman Marcus Cafe in Dallas, who enjoyed the chocolate chip cookies so much that she asked for the recipe. For "only two-fifty," the waitress said, it was hers. But when the credit card bill arrived, the woman found the total near $300. Turns out the recipe cost $250, the story goes. In 1997, after years of enduring the myth, Neiman Marcus came up with a recipe - and gave it out for free. It's a delicious variation on chocolate chip cookies, using ground oatmeal, nuts and adding extra chocolate with a grated Hershey bar (you can use any brand you love).

- In a large bowl, cream together butter, brown sugar, and white sugar until smooth. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in milk and vanilla. Gradually mix in the sifted ingredients until well blended. Using a wooden spoon, stir in the cornflakes, oats, coconut, chocolate chips, and walnuts. Roll the dough into walnut sized balls, and place 2 inches apart on prepared cookie sheets; flatten slightly.

$250 CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES RECIPE
I always bring these cookies to my boyfriend's house whenever he invites me over. THEY ARE A HIT and the whole family loves them! Whenever they know I'm coming they always ask if I'm bringing my cookies. There is a story to these: There was a lady that went to a restaurant and had these cookies. She fell in love with them and asked the manager if she could have the recipe. He agreed and gave it to her and she charged her meal to her card. She got her credit card bill and saw that the recipe for those awesome cookies were $250. She was mad at the restaurant and made sure that she got use out of the recipe by sending it to every church cook book and website she could find.

Steps:
- 1. Adjust racks to upper-and lower-middle positions and heat oven to 350 degrees. Line 2 large cookie sheets with parchment paper. 2. Whisk ground oats, flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a medium bowl. 3. By electric mixer, beat butter, brown sugar and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes on medium speed. Scrape sides of bowl and add vanilla and egg; continue beating until combined. Scrape sides of bowl again and add dry ingredients slowly beating on low speed until just combined. Add chocolate chips, coconut, chopped chocolate, and nutes; stir to combine. 4. Working with 2 tablespoons of dough at a time, form dough into balls about 1 3/4 inches in diameter. Place balls on cookie sheets, leaving at least 2 inches between them. Bake, reversing position of cookies sheets halfway through baking, until edges of cookies begin to crisp but centers are still soft, 15 - 18 minutes. Cool cookies 1 - 2 minutes before transferring to cooling racks.
DOUBLETREE SIGNATURE COOKIE
When stay-at-home orders forced all of us to postpone travel plans this year, executives at DoubleTree decided to break some good news - in the form of their secret cookie recipe. The hotel chain is famous for greeting guests with warm chocolate chip cookies, but since the popular treats arrived in 1986, DoubleTree has refused to give up the details. "Revealing the recipe was a big discussion," admits the chain's global head Shawn McAteer. Try the recipe yourself, and take note of the secret ingredient: lemon juice!

URBAN LEGEND CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES
You may have heard this story...a woman asks to buy a cookie recipe and is told it will cost 'two-fifty.' She thinks this means $2.50, but then she gets her credit card bill back and finds out it is $250.00. Outraged, she spreads the recipe far and wide to try and get her money's worth. I first heard this story 6 years ago and was given a recipe on a sheet of paper which bore the date '1986.' The supposed originator of the recipe was a well-known cookie company. I have since heard this tale again several times, with the recipe originating from different upscale department stores. True story? Who knows, but it's a darn good cookie. Here's my version.
