CLASSIC MARTINI RECIPE - PERFECT MARTINI RECIPE:

Classic Martini Recipe - Perfect Martini Recipe: image

Provided by What's Cooking America

Categories     Drinks

Number Of Ingredients 5

3 ounces gin (or vodka, your choice*)
Splash of 1/2 ounce dry vermouth**
Ice cubes
Pimento-stuffed green olives ((large ones are best))
Lemon (twist)

Steps:

  • Chill martini glasses by placing in the freezer. A properly chilled martini glass means they should be in the freezer for a minimum of one hour prior to making martini cocktails.
  • Place 7 to 8 ice cubes in the chilled glass pitcher or metal cocktain shaker. Note: Your glass pitcher or metal shaker should also be stored in the freezer.
  • Pour gin or vodka and vermouth into the chilled glass pitcher or a metal cocktail shaker filled with ice cubes. Either shake or stir until cold (your choice) at least 10 seconds.
  • Strain into a chilled martini cocktail glass. Serve straight up (no ice in the glass).
  • Garnish with either a couple of olives or a lemon twist. My preference is three large olives.
  • Makes 1 fantastic classic martini.

TRADITIONAL MARTINI

Traditional Martini image

Martinis are in! The key to an excellent martini is to ensure that it is ice cold. The classic martini has only two ingredients--so it's important to use the best ingredients you can afford. Vermouth should be stored in the refrigerator to retain its flavor. Energetic shaking with ice coupled with some flair is vital for a smooth/silky result. Stirring produces a crystal-clear martini but it will never get as cold as a shaken martini. This is also called an "in and out martini" or "spitting the vermouth." It results in a well balanced martini every time.

Provided by NcMysteryShopper

Categories     Beverages

Time 2m

Yield 1 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 3

3 1/2 ounces vodka, high-quality or 3 1/2 ounces high-quality gin
1 ounce dry vermouth
olive

Steps:

  • First inspect your martini glass for cleanliness
  • Then, fill the glass with ice and water.
  • Next grab your cocktail shaker and fill it with ice and the appropriate alcohol. Shake the alcohol to properly chill it. (No more than 30 seconds, as the alcohol will dilute in the ice and lose its integrity.) Use lots of flair! Make your martinis memorable even if it is just Friday evening at home.
  • Then dump out the water and ice from the glass.
  • Next pour dry vermouth around the top edge of the glass, holding your finger over the air spout. (This controls the pour.)
  • Then swirl the glass to make sure the vermouth has fully coated the inner surface of the glass.
  • Next dump the vermouth into the sink, and strain in the chilled liquor.
  • Finally, add the olive (or if they are small, several). I think it is always best to spear the olives with a cocktail pick of some sort, otherwise you will find your guests unseemly digging their fingers into their martini in order to retrieve the delectable olive. If you want a dirty martini add some olive juice.

30 BEST CLASSIC AND MODERN MARTINI RECIPES

From thespruceeats.com
  • Dry Gin Martini Recipe. There's no better way to kick off a martini recipe collection than with the martini. Made of gin and dry vermouth with an optional dash of bitters, the gin martini has an iconic taste marked with a dry botanical flavor profile.
  • Martinez Recipe. According to cocktail history, the Martinez was most likely created before the martini. First printed in the 1887 edition of "The Bon Vivant's Companion: Or How to Mix Drinks" by "Professor" Jerry Thomas, this is a very old drink recipe.
  • Manhattan Recipe. Whiskey's answer to the martini, the Manhattan is equally simple, satisfying, and versatile (with nearly as many variations created over the years).
  • Vodka Martini Recipe. Clean and crisp, the vodka martini is a 20th-century classic. Originally, it went by "kangaroo," but that name didn't last long. It's really nothing more than a martini that replaces the gin with vodka, though it's less aromatic, and that appeals to many drinkers.
  • Perfect Martini Recipe. There's a special vocabulary in the martini world: Ironically, "dry" means less dry vermouth, and "perfect" means the drink includes equal parts of dry and sweet vermouth.
  • Affinity Cocktail Recipe. The affinity cocktail is one of several classic recipes that use the double vermouth pairing without the "perfect" moniker. In the Manhattan family, it specifically calls for Scotch whisky and orange bitters.
  • Dirty Martini Recipe. When you hear someone talk about a "dirty" martini, it's time to break out the olives. Featuring dry vermouth, you can make it with gin or vodka, and it even works with tequila.
  • Jean Harlow Cocktail Recipe. Rum has a place in the martini world, too! The Jean Harlow cocktail is, essentially, a rum Manhattan. It follows the "keep-it-simple" theory common in classic drinks by combining rum and sweet vermouth.
  • Tequini Recipe. The variety in tequila styles ensures that there's a martini for everyone's taste. On the drier side, the tequini uses dry vermouth, and an unaged blanco tequila is preferred.
  • Chrysanthemum Recipe. In the classic cocktail scene, brandy was king. It's lost some of its appeal among modern drinkers, though the old-fashioned cocktails continue to impress.
