Steps:
- In a small bowl, mix the warm water, yeast and 1 teaspoon of the sugar. Set aside for about 5 minutes until the mixture starts to thicken and bubble slightly. (If the mixture does not start to thicken and bubble slightly, the yeast is not working. Check the expiration date on the yeast and start over.)
- In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, stir together the egg, oil, salt and remaining 1/2 cup sugar until well combined. Mix in the cold water followed by the boiling water. Add the yeast mixture to the mixing bowl and stir until well blended. Add the flour and stir until it comes together into a shaggy dough, about 1 minute. Replace the paddle attachment with the dough hook and continue to knead until mostly smooth, about 3 minutes.
- Add the garlic, 2 tablespoons of the parsley and 1 tablespoon of the chives to the dough. Continue to knead until the dough is smooth and elastic, another 3 minutes, adding in the extra 1/2 cup flour or more as needed so the dough isn't too sticky. Transfer the dough to a large, oiled bowl. Cover with plastic wrap and let it rise in a warm spot until doubled in size, about 3 hours.
- Line an 8-inch round cake pan or baking dish with a sheet of parchment, allowing the excess paper to hang over the edges of the pan. Place a 2-to-3-inch biscuit cutter, sharp side down, in the center of the pan or dish and set aside.
- Mix the melted butter with the remaining 2 tablespoons parsley and 1 tablespoon chives in a large bowl. Cut the dough into strips and then cut each strip into 1-inch pieces. Roll a piece into a ball and transfer it to the bowl with the butter, turning to coat completely. Transfer it to the cake pan. Repeat with the remaining dough and butter mixture, surrounding the biscuit cutter completely with the balls. Drizzle any remaining butter from the bowl over the top. Cover and let rise for 1 1/2 hours at room temperature.
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Sprinkle the balls with the Parmesan. Place the pan of dough onto a baking sheet and bake until the top is golden brown and crisp, 35 to 40 minutes. Remove from the oven and let rest for 5 minutes.
- While the bread is resting, in a small saucepan, heat the marinara and half-and-half until it is warm. Transfer to a bowl for dipping. Transfer the bread to a serving platter with the side sprinkled with Parmesan facing up. Remove the biscuit cutter. Serve immediately with the creamy tomato dipping sauce.
VEGEMITE PULL APARTS
I used to make this for my now adult children when they were kids. They used to love them when they came home from school. I saw this again in a magazine and am posting it to make again sometime soon.

Steps:
- Preheat your oven to 220°C/200°C fan-forced. Line a baking tray with baking paper. Sift the flour into a bowl. Using fingertips, rub butter into flour until mixture resembles breadcrumbs. Make a well in the centre. Add the milk. Using a flat-bladed knife, stir until mixture forms a soft dough, adding more milk if necessary. Turn out onto a lightly floured surface. Knead gently until smooth (make sure you don't over-knead).
- Roll dough out to a 30cm x 20cm rectangle. Spread the Vegemite over the dough, leaving a 1cm strip along 1 long side. Sprinkle with the cheese over the Vegemite. Roll up firmly. Transfer to prepared tray, seam-side down.
- Using scissors, cut into top of dough at 3cm intervals without cutting all the way through. Pull slices to the left and right. Brush with milk. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until golden.
- Serve warm or cold.

"EVERYTHING" PULL-APART ROLLS
Fluffy, buttery, and slightly sweet, these yeasty rolls are sprinkled with an Everything Bagel-inspired topping for fantastic texture and flavor. Of course they're dreamy fresh from the oven, but you can also slice them down the middle the next day for incredible leftovers sandwich bread.

Steps:
- In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine the milk and 8 tablespoons butter. Heat until the butter is melted, about 7 minutes. Remove from the heat and let cool to 105-115 F. Add the yeast and stir until dissolved. Let stand to allow yeast to bloom, 10 minutes.Meanwhile, in the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a dough hook attachment, combine flour, sugar, and kosher salt. Mix on low speed until combined, about 30 seconds.
- After the yeast has bloomed, add the milk mixture to the mixer. Mix on low speed for about 1 minute; then increase the speed to medium-low and mix until the dough is smooth and elastic, about 4 more minutes. Meanwhile, lightly grease a large bowl. Remove the dough from the mixer, shape it into a round, and place into greased bowl. Cover the bowl tightly with plastic wrap and let the dough rise in a warm place until doubled in volume, about 1 hour. In the meantime, grease a 13x9-inch baking pan.
- When the dough has doubled in size, remove from bowl onto a clean work surface lightly dusted with flour. Use a bench scraper to divide the dough in half. Gently roll each piece of dough into a log 12 inches long. Then cut each log into 6 equal pieces.
- Using the cupped palm of your hand, roll and shape each piece into a taut ball against the floured work surface; close any visible seams with your fingers. Transfer the dough balls to the greased baking pan and space them out evenly. Cover the pan tightly with plastic wrap and let the rolls rise in a warm place for 30 minutes. Preheat the oven to 375 F.
- When the rolls have finished rising, prepare the "Everything" Topping: In a small bowl, combine the flaky sea salt, onion flakes, garlic flakes, and sesame seeds.Brush the tops of the rolls with 2 tablespoons of melted butter, then sprinkle with the "Everything" Topping. (Tip: Sprinkling from a height will ensure even distribution.) Bake until the rolls are golden, 18-20 minutes. Serve the rolls warm or at room temperature.

- Nigella’s Spaghetti. Probably the first thing everyone thinks of when taking Vegemite away from breakfast is doing up that famous Nigella Lawson recipe.
- Vegemite Stock. I came across this when I had my first winter out of home and was trying to make a hearty veggie soup stretch another couple of meals.
- Sticky Wings. Do you know what else Vegemite works really well on? The humble sticky chicken wing. Working it in with flavours like sweet soy kecap manis, oyster sauce, and chilli allows the Vegemite to round out the sticky sauce with its umami flavour.
- Baked Potatoes. While I was looking around for Vegemite-related recipes, this one piqued my interest and yes I’ll be making it as soon as I possibly can.
- Brownies. Vegemite brownies. Yep, we’re going there. Having that salty yeasty spread in your sweet snack recipes might feel incredibly wrong but may I kindly remind you of that Vegemite chocolate that Cadbury did a while back?
- Literally Anything That Calls For Anchovies. I think what we’ve established here is the general taste of Vegemite, right? It’s salty, and umami, and can either pack a bit of a punch or work away as a quiet hero in the background.
