NOTE: As with regular french toast, you'll want a thicker bread so that it doesn't fall apart after being dipped in the egg mixture, or stick to the waffle iron.

6 eggs
2 cups milk
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
2 tablespoons brown sugar
8 slices bread

Steps:

  • Preheat waffle maker and spray surface with non-stick cooking spray. In large bowl, whisk eggs until frothy, then add remaining ingredients and whisk until well mixed. Dip one slice of bread into mixture and turn to cover both sides. Place in waffle maker and cook until golden brown. Top with syrup or powdered sugar.

Steps:

  • Preheat a waffle iron according to manufacturer's instructions and spray with cooking spray.
  • Whisk milk, eggs, maple syrup, vanilla extract, and salt together in a wide bowl until thoroughly combined. Dip bread slices 1 at a time in the egg mixture, coating both sides completely. 8 large eggs
2 cups 2% milk
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
16 slices Texas toast
Maple syrup

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, whisk the first 6 ingredients until blended. Dip both sides of bread in egg mixture. Place in a preheated waffle iron; bake until golden brown, 4-5 minutes. If desired, cut waffles into thirds. Serve with syrup. Freeze option: Cool waffles on wire racks. Freeze between layers of waxed paper in freezer containers. Reheat frozen waffles in a toaster on medium setting.

1/3 cup heavy cream
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 cup breadcrumbs, approx.
4 -6 slices challa egg bread, sliced into 1 inch slices

Steps:

  • Mix vanilla, eggs, sugar, and cream to blend well.
  • Place egg bread slices into mixture to soak for 3 minutes or until thoroughly moist.
  • Coat both sides of moistened bread with the crumbs.
  • Melt a small dab of margarine in a large heavy pan.
  • Add bread slices and brown well on both sides, add more butter or margarine to pan when necessary, just to prevent sticking.
