1 package (16 ounces) spiral pasta
1 small onion, chopped
1 garlic clove, minced
6 tablespoons butter, divided
6 tablespoons all-purpose flour
4 cups whole milk
1 can (14-1/2 ounces) vegetable or chicken broth
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
1/2 cup shredded Parmesan cheese
1/4 cup bread crumbs
1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning

Steps:

  • Cook pasta according to package directions. Meanwhile, in a large saucepan, saute onion and garlic in 4 tablespoons butter until tender. Stir in the flour until blended. Gradually add milk and broth. Bring to a boil; cook and stir for 2 minutes or until thickened. Remove from the heat; stir in cheeses until melted., Melt the remaining butter; stir in bread crumbs and Italian seasoning. Drain pasta; toss with cheese sauce. Sprinkle with seasoned bread crumbs.

These golden twists are always popular. We like them along-side chili and soup. My husband and daughter usually try to sneak a few from the cooling rack when I make them.

Number Of Ingredients 7

1-1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup cornmeal
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup shortening
1-1/4 cups shredded cheddar cheese
1/3 cup cold water
Grated Parmesan cheese

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, combine the flour, cornmeal and salt. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in cheddar cheese. Sprinkle with 1/3 cup water. Toss with a fork (if dough is dry, add water, 1 teaspoon at a time, until dough forms a ball). Wrap tightly in plastic wrap; refrigerate for 1 hour or until firm., Divide dough in half. On a lightly floured surface, roll each portion into an 11x10-in. rectangle. Cut into 5x1/2-in. strips. Carefully twist each strip and place on greased baking sheets, pressing ends down., Bake at 425° for 7-9 minutes or until golden brown. Immediately sprinkle twists with Parmesan cheese. Cool on wire racks. Store in an airtight container.

2 large egg yolks
1 large egg
1/4 cup whole milk
Store-bought puff pastry, rolled into 1 (12 by 20-inch) rectangle, about 1/8-inch thick
1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Pinch salt
Pinch finely ground pepper

Steps:

  • Prepare the egg wash: Combine the yolks, whole egg, and milk in a small mixing bowl and whip with a hand whisk until well combined. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Flour the dough and table as needed to keep the dough from sticking to the table or the rolling pin. Place the dough on your work surface with a long side facing you. Use a pastry brush to coat the surface of the rectangle with some egg wash. Liberally sprinkle the Parmesan cheese over the rectangle, followed by the salt and pepper. Use a sharp paring knife to cut the rectangle into 1-inch-wide strips from top to bottom. Flip each strip so that the cheese is on the bottom. Twist each strip by rolling each end in opposite directions. Always remember to twist so that the topping faces out --that way you can see how they are flavored. Place the strips on a parchment paper-covered baking sheet and bake until well risen and golden brown, about 20 minutes. Cool completely on a wire rack before serving. These puff pastry items are best eaten the day they are made.

1/2 cup Parmesan cheese

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
  • Mix all ingredients except 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese. Knead until thoroughly mixed. Roll dough into quarter-sized balls. On a lightly floured surface, roll balls into pencil-shaped "sticks" in Parmesan so the sticks are coated. Flatten with rolling pin or by hand. Twist each about 6 to 8 times and place on ungreased baking sheet. Bake approximately 30 minutes. Cool on pan. Store in sealed container

1/2 cup milk, plus
1 tablespoon milk
1/4 cup water, plus
1 tablespoon water
1 egg
3 tablespoons olive oil
1 teaspoon salt
3 cups bread flour
2 teaspoons yeast
1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded (4 ounces)
1/2 cup swiss cheese, shredded (2 ounces)
1/4 cup parmesan cheese, grated (1 ounce)

Steps:

  • According to manufacturer's directions, place the milk, water, egg, oil, salt, flour and yeast into the bread machine basket in the order given for your machine. Process using the dough cycle.
  • When the dough cycle is finished, remove dough to floured board (you may need to knead in extra flour to make dough easy to handle).
  • Roll dough into a 18 x 20 inch rectangle. Sprinkle cheeses over dough, leaving a 1/2-inch border (without cheese). Begining at a long end, roll up tightly, pinching seam to seal edges. Place seam down on a large greased cookie sheet.
  • With a sharp knife, cut lengthwise down the center of the roll, one inch deep, keeping 1/2 inch free of each end (with no cuts).
  • Keeping the cut end on top, fold dough in half lengthwise forming a"U". Cross one side over the other, curving the open ends to form an"8". Pinch the ends to join. Cover and let rise until doubled (45 minutes).
  • Preheat oven to 375-degrees F.
  • Bake bread for 25-30 minutes or until done.

1 cup quick-cooking grits
2 ounces sharp cheddar cheese
2 ounces monterey jack cheese
1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese
1/2 teaspoon salt

Steps:

  • Combine the water and grits in a stockpot.
  • Cook over medium heat for 20 minutes, stirring every few minutes.
  • Make sure to scrape the bottom of the pan with the spoon each time.
  • While the grits are cooking, grate the cheddar and monterey jack cheeses.
  • When the grits are done, stir in the cream cheese, grated cheeses, and salt.
  • Stir until the cheese are melted; taste and adjust seasoning if needed.

2 sheets puff pastry, thawed
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1 cup deli ham, diced
¼ cup mayonnaise
2 tablespoons mustard
2 tablespoons honey
¼ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon pepper
¼ teaspoon garlic powder

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400˚F (200˚C).
  • Place the puff pastry sheets on top of each other on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet. Use a large bowl or plate to cut around the outside, and remove the excess dough.
  • Remove the top piece of puff pastry and sprinkle half of the cheese on the bottom piece, followed by ham and the rest of the cheese. Place the other round of puff pastry on top.
  • Place a mason jar, or glass in the middle of the puff pastry circle. Cut the dough up to the cup, creating strips all the way around.
  • Twist each strip twice, so that it's still attached to the center.
  • Bake for 35-40 minutes or until the crust is golden brown.
  • Mix the mayonnaise, mustard, honey, salt, pepper, and garlic powder together until well combined.
  • Serve the ham and cheese twists with the dip.
  • Enjoy!
