These air fryer onion rings are a crispy way to eat onion rings with no breadcrumbs. Made with almond flour, flax seed and seasonings, they are a great addition to whole30 low carb or keto ways of eating.

1 large Yellow Onion
2 eggs
3/4 cup Almond Flour
1/4 cup Ground Flax Seed
1/4 tsp Paprika
1/4 tsp Garlic Powder
1/2 tsp Salt
1/4 tsp Ground Black Pepper
Spray Olive or Avocado Oil

Steps:

  • Spray avocado or olive oil spray on the bottom of your air fryer basket and preheat to 400 degrees.
  • Take out 2 bowls. In one crack and scramble both eggs.
  • In the other, add almond flour, flax seed and spices and whisk together until fully combined.
  • Peel your onion and cut into rings that are about 1/2 inch thick and pull apart each ring. Discard the inside smaller rings or use them for something else. These could be made into onion rings if you don't mind the shape.
  • Dip each onion ring into egg coating it evenly and then press into flour mixture making sure it is all evenly coated. Place each ring onto a plate until you have a basket full before putting into air fryer.
  • Repeat above step until all onion rings are dredged and coated.
  • Next, spray your breaded onion rings with a light coat of olive oil or avocado oil spray to ensure they get a nice crispy brown color.
  • Using tongs, place in a single layer into air fryer basket. Do not over crowd the basket. Onion rings may need to be cooked in several batches.
  • Cook for 5-7 minutes and flip to cook another 5 minutes. Keep checking on them as they can burn quickly.
  • Once onion rings are cooked, serve immediately.

¾ cup all-purpose flour
½ cup cornstarch
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 large onion, cut into rings
1 cup milk
1 egg
1 cup bread crumbs
cooking spray
2 pinches garlic powder
2 pinches paprika

Steps:

  • Stir flour, cornstarch, baking powder, and salt together in a small bowl. Dip onion rings into the flour mixture until coated; set aside.
  • Whisk milk and egg into the flour mixture using a fork. Dip the floured rings into the batter to coat. Place on a wire rack to drain until the batter stops dripping.
  • Place bread crumbs in a shallow dish. Place rings one at a time into the crumbs and scoop the crumbs over the rings to coat evenly. Give rings a hard tap as you remove them from the crumbs; the coating should cling very well. Repeat with remaining rings.
  • Heat an air fryer to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C) according to manufacturer's instructions. Place rings side by side in the frying basket. Spray lightly with cooking spray. Flip rings and place basket in the air fryer. Cook until rings are golden brown, 2 to 3 minutes. Flip once halfway through. Drain on paper towels and sprinkle with garlic powder and paprika.

1 large Onion ((sliced into rings 1/2 inch thick))
3 tbsp Wholesome Yum Coconut Flour
1/4 tsp Sea salt
2 large Eggs
2/3 cup Pork rinds ((~1.8 oz))
3 tbsp Wholesome Yum Blanched Almond Flour
1/2 tsp Paprika
1/2 tsp Garlic powder

Steps:

  • Arrange 3 small, shallow bowls in a line:* Coconut flour and sea salt, stirred together* Eggs, beaten* Pork rinds, almond flour, paprika, and garlic powder, stirred together
  • Lightly grease 2 air fryer oven racks or an air fryer basket.
  • Dredge an onion ring in coconut flour. Dip it in the egg, shake off the excess, then place in the pork rind mixture. Scoop extra pork rind mixture over it, so that it's coated on all size. Place into the air fryer rack or basket. Repeat with all the onion rings, placing them in a single layer without touching. (You may need to cook them in two batches if you don't have 2 air fryer racks.)
  • Preheat the air fryer or air fryer oven to 400 degrees F for 2 to 3 minutes.
  • For an air fryer oven: Place both racks into the air fryer oven. Bake for about 8 minutes, until the top layer is golden. Switch racks and bake for 8 more minutes, until the top layer is golden again.For a regular air fryer: Only half the onion rings will fit into the basket in a single layer. Place the basket into the air fryer. Bake for 16 minutes, until golden. Remove the onion rings, arrange the next batch of uncooked rings, and repeat.

  • Use a fork to steady the onion. Slice into 1 cm rings. Remove the skin and separate the rings. Discard the ends and the small rings right in the centre.
