Aunt Jane's Brown Bread image

This is an old standby on my Thanksgiving table and on my mother's. It was her Aunt Jane who started it. I like to eat it plain, sliced thin, but I know others claim it's delicious with a little bit of butter or cream cheese on top.

2 cups milk
½ cup white sugar
½ cup molasses
1 ½ cups whole wheat flour
1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
½ teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
3 teaspoons baking powder

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Butter and flour two 9x5-inch bread pans.
  • In a small bowl, combine milk, sugar and molasses.
  • Mix together whole wheat flour, all-purpose flour, salt, baking soda and baking powder. Add to milk mixture and mix well.
  • Pour mixture into bread pans. Bake in preheated oven until a tester inserted in the centers comes out clean, about 45 minutes. Let bread cool in pans for 10 minutes, then invert on wire rack and allow to cool completely.

For Crust:
1 11/2 cup crushed graham cracker crumbs
1 cup sugar
4 to 5 tablespoons butter melted
For Filling:
3 8 ounce packages cream cheese softened
1 cup sugar
4 medium eggs
1 pint sour cream
2 tablespoons flour
2 teaspoons vanilla
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1 cup heavy cream

Steps:

  • Grease bottom and sides of a 10 inch springform pan. Combine crust ingredients and pat down firmly in bottom of pan. Place in freezer while making rest of cake. In largest bowl of an electric mixer beat filling ingredients in order listed adding each 1 by 1 and beating until thoroughly mixed. Pour into prepared pan and bake in a preheated oven at 325 degrees for 20 minutes, then lower heat to 300 degrees and bake for 40 minutes more. Turn off heat and let cake cool in closed oven for 1 hour. Cool on rack to room temperture, then refrigerate.

2 c. sugar
3 c. flour
1 t. soda
1/2 tl cinnamon
1 t. salt
3 eggs
1 1/2 c. Crisco oil
1 c. chopped nuts (pecans or walnuts)
1 t. vanilla
1 small can crushed pineapple, well drained
2 c. mashed ripe bananas (4 or 5)

Steps:

  • In a large mixing bowl, sift dry ingredients. Make a well in the center. Add eggs, oil, nuts, vanilla and well-drained crushed pineapple and bananas. Pour into a greased and floured tube or bundt pan. Bake 1 hour and 15 minutes at 350. Remove from pan, cook and serve.

2 cups butter
2 cups packed brown sugar
1 cup milk
4 cups flour
4 cups oatmeal
5 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
dates, 375 g

Steps:

  • Filling:.
  • Break up dates, cover with water, add 2 tespoons of lemon juice. Boil for 2 minutes. Add dates to cookie, fold cookie in half. Press edge with fork.
  • Cream butter and sugar together well.
  • Slowly mix in milk.
  • Use a wooden spoon Mix all Dry ingredients together.
  • Now slowly add to wet batter.
  • Mix well.
  • Roll out the dough to about 1/8 inch thick.
  • Cut into 3 inch diameter round, the top of the large mayonnaise jar works well.
  • Put on each round circle 1 tablespoon of dates, or how much you like.
  • Bake on ungreased bake sheet.
  • Bake at 350 for 8 - 10 minutes.
