BAKED FRENCH TOAST STICKS

Baked French Toast Sticks image

French Toast Sticks are easy to make, no-fork-required, perfectly dunk-able sticks of soft, buttery, perfectly cinnamony bliss! Breakfast just got a whole lot more exciting with this fun, family friendly french toast recipe!

Provided by Jaclyn

Categories     Breakfast

Time 45m

Number Of Ingredients 9

2 Tbsp granulated sugar
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1 cup whole milk
4 large eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 pinch salt
8 slices Texas toast bread
2 Tbsp butter (, melted, plus more for serving if desired)
Maple syrup (, for serving)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line an 18 by 13-inch baking sheet with parchment paper. In a small bowl whisk together sugar and cinnamon, set aside.
  • In a medium mixing bowl, vigorously whisk together milk, eggs, vanilla and salt until very well blended. Cut each slice of bread into even three strips (you can layer a few slices to cut several at a time). Dip each portion (I usually dip 2 sticks at a time) into egg mixture then lift and let excess run off and transfer to prepared baking sheet (they will have to fit closely together but leave just a little space between them).
  • Using a basting brush, brush tops of french toast sticks lightly with 1 Tbsp of the melted butter. Sprinkle tops evenly with half of the cinnamon sugar mixture.
  • Bake in preheated oven for 13 minutes. Remove from oven, flip french toast sticks to opposite side and brush tops lightly with remaining 1 Tbsp melted butter and sprinkle evenly with remaining cinnamon sugar mixture. Return to oven and continue to bake until cooked through, about 13 - 18 minutes longer. Let cool for a few minutes. Brush lightly with a little more melted butter if desired and serve warm with maple syrup for dipping.

CRUNCHY FRENCH TOAST STICKS

Crunchy French Toast Sticks image

Provided by Ree Drummond : Food Network

Categories     dessert

Time 40m

Yield 36 sticks

Number Of Ingredients 12

6 large eggs
1/2 cup half-and-half
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 1/2 cups panko breadcrumbs
1 1/2 cups sweetened corn and oat cereal, such as Cap'n Crunch, crushed to fine crumbs
2 tablespoons salted butter, melted
12 slices Texas toast, each cut into 3 strips
Powdered sugar, for serving
Warm pancake syrup, for serving
Raspberries and blueberries, for serving

Steps:

  • Crack the eggs into a pie plate. Add the half-and-half, vanilla, 1/4 cup of the granulated sugar and 1/2 teaspoon of the cinnamon. Whisk lightly until combined; set aside.
  • In a separate pie plate, stir together the panko breadcrumbs, crushed cereal and remaining 1/4 cup granulated sugar and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon. Use a fork to stir in the melted butter so that the crumbs are slightly moist. Crack up at the madness that is in this dish, then set it aside.
  • One by one, quickly dunk the bread strips in the egg mixture, turning to coat. Then lay them in the dish with the crumb mixture, turning them over, sprinkling and pressing so the crumbs totally cover the surface. Place the sticks on a rack set in a baking sheet. Flash-freeze for 30 minutes to set the surface.
  • Transfer the sticks to zipper bags for storage in the freezer. I do smaller bags of 6 to 8 sticks each, but you can do larger batches if you prefer!
  • To bake them from frozen state, preheat the oven to 425 degrees F. Line a pan with frozen sticks and bake until golden brown around the edges, 15 to 18 minutes. Sprinkle with powdered sugar. Serve with warm pancake syrup for dipping and fruit to make you feel good about life!

STICKY BAKED FRENCH TOAST

Sticky Baked French Toast image

This is a delicious pan of french toast that is perfect for brunch. It is refrigerated overnight. I found this recipe at helenjane.com in 2005 and baked it for my family. Thanks Helen Jane, the family enjoyed it and I want to have it archived on the computer since I cannot find it on your site any longer. It has been a while since I last made it and I can't remember how many servings I got out of a pan or the exact prep time.

Categories     Breads

Time 1h5m

Yield 12 pieces, 12 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 loaf French bread, day old
5 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons corn syrup (or maple syrup)
1/2 cup milk
5 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
whipped cream
strawberry (optional)

Steps:

  • Cut the french bread into 1-2" wide slices.
  • In a medium sized saucepan over medium flame, put corn/maple syrup, butter and brown sugar. Stir until it all comes together and starts to bubble.
  • Carefully pour the hot, sticky mixture into a well-buttered and possibly aluminum-foiled 13' x 9" baking dish.
  • Arrange the thick slices of french bread over the mixture.
  • In a big bowl, beat together eggs, milk and vanilla until light colored and a little bubbly. Pour the eggy mixture over the bread which is on the top of the hot, sticky mixture.
  • Cover the baking dish and refrigerate overnight. (note: You can do it just a few hours before you bake it, but it is much better if you do it the night before.).
  • Heat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Put the french toast dish in the oven and bake for 45 minutes.
  • Loosen the sticky baked french bread from it's hot, sticky bed and invert onto a platter.
  • Serve with whipped cream & strawberries!
