BATH BOMBS

Bath Bombs image

Bath bombs are (non-edible!) chunks of ... stuff that you throw in your bathwater. They soften the skin and smell great.

Provided by Kat2355

Categories     Bath/Beauty

Time 5m

Yield 8 bath bombs

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 cup baking soda
1/2 cup citric acid
1/2 cup cornstarch
1 -2 drop food coloring (optional)
fragranced body oil (essential oils)
dried flower petals (optional)

Steps:

  • Mix together well a small amount of baking soda, food coloring and 10-20 drops of fragrance oil in a bowl.
  • Add this mixture to the remaining baking soda, citric acid, and corn starch (and flower petals, if using).
  • Mix well.
  • Spritz the mixture with water while mixing with your hands.
  • Keep spritzing and mixing until a handful, when squeezed, keeps its shape.
  • DO NOT ADD TOO MUCH WATER.
  • Press the mixture firmly into your mold (try plain 2" round chocolate molds).
  • Do not use molds that are large, nor those that have intricate detail- they will break.
  • Pop out of mold immediately (be careful not to break it.) Let it dry overnight.
  • The bath bomb will grow slightly when drying.
  • Store by wrapping individually, or store in a jar with a tight lid.

FIZZY BATH BOMBS

Fizzy Bath Bombs image

These bath bombs make fantastic gifts - they are just dropped into a hot bath & they fizz & dissolve releasing a beautiful fragrance! Surprisingly easy to make, let your imagination run WILD & experiment with different oils & colours - I also like to add dried rose petals, dried lavender & fine glitter......the possibilities are endless! I use heart shaped moulds, friand cake tins & round Christmas baubles for moulds. Let me know your ideas! I buy the citric acid in a large bag from an Asian supermarket.

  • Bring together all of your dry ingredients in a mixing bowl, (baking soda, corn starch, Epsom salts) excluding your citric acid. We want to leave the citric acid until later, as adding it now can complicate things during the liquid pour step, just trust me.
  • In a seperate container, you can go ahead and mix your wet ingredients as well, including any food color or soap dye you’re planning to use.
  • Working slowly so as not to disturb the baking soda too much, add your wet ingredients to the dry ingredients a bit at a time and mixing thoroughly with your hands. (Adding your dye to the Epsom salts rather than your liquids is an interesting alternative worth trying at some point. Just mix thoroughly before adding the salts to the rest of your dry ingredients).
  • As you work the bath bomb ingredients, you’re looking for a texture that is similar to that of damp, but no saturated, sand. You’ll notice that the mixture will begin to stick together at this stage, a bit like wet sand does in your sandcastle bucket.
