12 large raw shrimp (peeled, tails left intact)
12 ounces tomato juice
9 ounces vodka
5 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
4 teaspoons horseradish
several dashes tabasco sauce (to taste)
kosher salt* (optional)
thinly sliced lime & lemon wedges

Steps:

  • Prepare a medium bowl of ice water.
  • Bring a large saucepan of water to a boil over high heat. Salt the water until it is as salty as sea water. Add the shrimp to the water and cook until the shrimp is just cooked through, 30 second to 1 minute.
  • Drain the shrimp and immediately plunge the shrimp into the ice water. Set aside.
  • In a large measuring cup with a spout, whisk together the tomato juice, vodka, Worcestershire sauce, horseradish and tabasco sauce.
  • If salting the rims of the shot glasses, pour the kosher salt onto a small plate. Rub a lime or lemon wedge on the rim of a 2-ounce shot glass, then dip the rim into the salt. Repeat with the remaining 11 shot glasses.
  • Pour the Bloody Mary mixture into the shot glasses. Garnish each with a cooked shrimp, along with lime and lemon wedges. Serve.

1 tbsp. kosher salt
1 tsp. smoked paprika
1 oz. lemon juice
11 oz. tomato juice
3 oz. vodka
6 drops Tabasco
2 dashes Worcestershire sauce
5 celery stalks, halved

Steps:

  • Place salt and paprika in a small, shallow dish, mixing to combine. In a separate small, shallow dish (like a saucer), add lemon juice. Dip the rim of each shot glass into the lemon juice, then in the salt-paprika mixture. Set glasses aside.
  • In a pitcher or large glass filled with ice, add tomato juice, vodka, hot sauce, and Worcestershire sauce, then stir to combine. Carefully pour mixture into each shot glass and garnish with a half-stalk of celery.

2 cups bloody mary mix
One 1/4-ounce packet unflavored gelatin, such as Knox
1 cup vodka
5 stalks celery

Steps:

  • Heat the bloody mary mix in a saucepot until hot, 3 to 5 minutes. Add the gelatin, then whisk to combine. Allow to cool slightly, then add the vodka and stir to combine.
  • Trim the celery sticks so they fit side-by-side in a casserole dish, then lay them flat with the curved side facing up. Pour the mixture over the celery, trying to keep as much of it inside the celery cavities as possible. Refrigerate until firm, at least 2 hours.
  • Cut the celery into bite-size pieces and serve.

3 stalks celery, cut into 2-inch pieces
6 cups tomato juice
1/4 cup fresh lemon juice (from 2 to 3 lemons)
3 tablespoons lightly packed grated peeled fresh horseradish
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon celery salt
1 to 2 teaspoons hot sauce, such as Tabasco
Freshly ground pepper
Black lava salt and coarsely ground black pepper, for rim
1 lemon wedge
2 ounces black vodka, such as Blavod
2 small stalks celery, for garnish

Steps:

  • Bloody Mary Mix: Pulse celery in a food processor until finely chopped. Add 2 cups tomato juice and puree until smooth. Transfer to a pitcher and stir in remaining 4 cups tomato juice, lemon juice, horseradish, Worcestershire, celery salt, hot sauce, and pepper. Cover and refrigerate at least 12 hours and up to 2 days.
  • Shooters: Stir together equal parts salt and pepper on a small plate. Rub lemon wedge around the rims of two double shot (3-ounce) glasses. Dip rims into salt and pepper mixture.
  • Pour 2 ounces Bloody Mary mix into bottom of each glass (reserve remaining Bloody Mary mix for another use). Holding a spoon upside down over the top of the glass, slowly pour 1 ounce vodka over spoon into each glass (vodka should sit on top of Bloody Mary mix and create a layer of black). Garnish with celery.

1 1/2 c. celery, chopped fine (3-4 ribs)

FOR SAUCE:
1/2 c. Chili Sauce (Heinz)
1/2 c. vodka - Absolut Peppar + extra to correct consistency
3 Tbls. bottled horseradish (not drained)
1 1/2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
1 1/2 tsp. Tabasco

  • PREPARE SHRIMP: 1. Bring a lg. saucepan of salted water (2 Tbls. salt for 2 qts. water) to a boil. Add shrimp, then remove from head and let stand in water until cooked through ... about 5 min. 2. Drain in a colander and cool to room temp ... about 30 min. 3. Cut shrimp into thirds/quarters and transfer to a lg. bowl w/ celery and scallions. MAKE SAUCE: 1. Whisk together all sauce ingredients w/ 1/4 tsp. pepper + 3/4 tsp. salt (or to taste). 2.   • In a pitcher, combine the Bloody Mary mix, clams and their juice and horseradish. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight.
  • Distribute the drink mixture and the clams among 8 shot glasses.

Try a spicy twist on a bloody mary with za'atar and chilli. With the classic tomato juice, vodka and lemon juice flavours, serve as a starter or cocktail

1 tsp honey
za'atar
125ml tomato juice
50ml vodka
1 tbsp lemon juice
25ml sweet sherry
ice
few drops chilli oil

Steps:

  • Dip the rims of six shot glasses in honey. Tip the za'atar out onto a plate then turn the rims of the glasses around in the za'atar to coat the very edges.
  • Mix all of the other ingredients together in a jug including a couple of handfuls of ice. Stir until the outside of the jug feels cold. Remove the ice with a slotted spoon then carefully pour the mixture into the prepared glasses then spoon a few drops of chilli oil on top of each one. Serve with warm flatbread, olive oil, more za'atar, olives and pickled chillies if you like.

1 to 2 tbsp. prepared horseradish, or to taste

8 oz. peeled cooked shrimp with tails, butterflied, about 20 shrimp

Steps:

  • 1. Mix 1 part vodka to 4 parts tomato juice in pitcher. Add Worcestershire, horseradish, Tabasco sauce, and pepper. Mix well. Fill twenty funky and mismatched shot glasses with the Bloody Mary mixture. Put one shrimp in each shot glass and garnish each with a short celery stick. Arrange shot glasses on serving platter and serve at once. You may prepare several hours in advance and store in refrigerator. Serves 20
