Blue Long Island Iced Tea image

This Blue Long Island Iced Tea is beautifully bright with a tangy sweet flavor! It's easy to make and deliciously refreshing.

1/2 ounce vodka
1/2 ounce tequila
1/2 ounce white rum
1/2 ounce gin
1/2 ounce blue curacao
1 ounce lemon juice (fresh squeezed)
3 to 5 ounces ginger ale
Ice (try clear ice) and lemon wedge, for serving

Steps:

  • Combine all ingredients in highball glass. Fill it with ice and stir. Garnish with a lemon wedge and serve.
  • Combine 1/2 cup each vodka, tequila, white rum, gin, and blue curacao, and 1 cup lemon juice. Add 2 1/2 cups ginger ale. Pour into ice filled highball glasses.

Blue Long Island Iced Tea image

This lighter, fruitier version of a Long Island Iced Tea is an eye-catching adaptation of its notorious counterpart, swapping blue Curaçao in for triple sec for a pop of color. Blue Curaçao is a dry orange liqueur that doesn't taste any different from its orange-hued counterpart. Curaçao was created when the Dutch West India Trading Company took over the island of Curaçao in the 19th century, according to historian Albert Frederic Benjamin. The island was covered in native laraha oranges and bitter Seville oranges that Spanish explorers had planted during the Columbian Exchange. Bols claims to have been the first to create Curaçao liqueur, but it is more than likely it was the first to make blue Curaçao, adding blue coloring and selling the product as créme de ciel, or "cream of the sky." The Blue Long Island Iced Tea is a great cocktail to showcase such a unique but misconstrued ingredient, as it holds its own against the powerhouse flavors of vodka, rum, tequila, and gin. This variation also steers away from the original recipe by using a lighter soda instead of Coca-Cola to heighten its blue tone. Some recipes go with ginger ale or energy drinks, but this version opts for a lemon-lime soda.

  • Add all the ingredients except for the soda to a shaker with ice and shake.
  • Strain into a Collins or highball glass with fresh ice.
  • Add a splash of soda, and garnish with lemon wedge and cocktail cherry.

Steps:

  • Fill a highball glass with ice cubes. Pour in the rum, tequila, gin, blue curacao, vodka, sour mix, and cola. Do not stir, allow the liquors to remain layered! Garnish with a lime wedge to serve.
