Are you looking for something special for a wedding or shower? This apple couple is adorable and would make a cute edible centerpiece. Use two jumbo apples for a bridal couple or small apples for wedding favors. A firm, crisp apple works best for this project. It is also helpful if you look for apples that "sit" up properly. You will also need the following supplies: 1 12" circle of white tulle, 1 20" length of white satin 3/4-inch ribbon, 1 20" length of black satin 3/4-inch ribbon, and tacky glue

2 large apples (without blemishes)
2 wooden sticks (for handles)
1 (12 ounce) bag white chocolate chips (or candy melt chips)
1 (12 ounce) bag semi-sweet chocolate chips

Steps:

  • Wash apples and let dry thoroughly. Decide on the "front" of each apple and which apple will be the bride and which will be the groom. Insert wooden sticks into apples for handles.
  • Line a baking sheet with waxed paper.
  • In a medium sized, microwave-safe bowl, melt white chocolate on medium power for two minutes. Stir and return to microwave for one minute at a time. Check every minute and stir until melted.
  • Dip 1 apple entirely into white chocolate. Several thin coats are best. Let dry on wax paper.
  • Dip the front of the second apple into the white chocolate. This will make the shirt front of the tuxedo for the groom. Let dry on wax paper.
  • Melt the semi sweet chocolate chips using the above instructions. Dip the groom apple leaving a \/ pattern of the white chocolate showing on the front side. Several thin layers of the darker chocolate are best. Let dry on wax paper.
  • Remelt the white chocolate. Hold the bride apple at a 90 degree angle over the wax paper. Slowly drizzle on the white chocolate while spinning the apple. When you are satisfied with the drizzle pattern let dry.
  • Use a wooden skewer or toothpick to place three dots of semisweet chocolate on the white shirt of the groom apple. These are the buttons of the tuxedo shirt. Let dry.
  • To finish each apple:.
  • Bride: Loosely run a gathering stitch along 1/3 of the tulle circle. Tie off. Glue to the top of the handle for the veil. Tie the white ribbon into a bow. Glue in place. Trim ends if desired. Small silk flowers, etc can be added to the veil if desired.
  • Groom: Tie a bow around the handle right above the shirt front. This makes the bow tie for the tuxedo.

His and hers Halloween shakes (one mint, one vanilla) are made in a single batch, then dressed up for the holiday in this ultimate trick-or-treat.

3 ounces semisweet chocolate chips
20 chocolate wafer cookies, finely crushed
4 chocolate-covered caramels, such as Rolos
2 ounces red candy melts
2 pints vanilla ice cream
1/2 cup milk
1/4 teaspoon peppermint extract
3 to 4 drops green food coloring
Canned whipped cream, for serving

Steps:

  • For the Frankenshake: Melt the chocolate chips in a small bowl in the microwave for 30 seconds. Stir, then heat until fully melted, about another 30 seconds.
  • Tip a pint glass or beer stein on its side. Using a toothpick, skewer or clean paintbrush, draw a mouth and eyes on the inside of the glass with the melted chocolate. (Add a few stitches to resemble a Frankenstein face.) Stand the glass upright and brush chocolate on the rim of the glass and about a quarter of the way down the outside of the glass in a zig-zag pattern to resemble the hairline. Press the crushed chocolate wafer cookies on the chocolate on the outside of the glass to coat. Put 2 dollops of chocolate on the sides of the glass where the bolts will be, then stick 2 of the chocolate-covered caramels on top and press to adhere. Place the glass in the freezer until the chocolate has hardened, about 10 minutes or up to overnight.
  • For the Bride-of-Frankenshake: Melt the candy melts in a small bowl in the microwave for 30 seconds. Stir, then heat until fully melted, about another 30 seconds.

  • Meanwhile, make the milkshakes. Blend the ice cream and milk in a blender until smooth. Pour half into the Bride-of-Frankenshake glass and chill in the freezer. Add the peppermint extract and green food coloring to the remaining milkshake in the blender and blend until just combined. Pour into the Frankenshake glass. Cover the top of each glass with the remaining crushed wafer cookies. Swirl the whipped cream on top of the Bride's glass. Serve immediately.

FROSTING:
1 cup shortening
1 cup butter, softened
8 cups confectioners' sugar
7 to 8 tablespoons 2% milk, divided
2 teaspoons clear vanilla extract
1/2 cup baking cocoa
2 teaspoons grated lemon zest
1/2 teaspoon lemon extract
DECORATIONS:
1 cup dark chocolate candy coating disks, melted
1/2 cup vanilla candy coating disks, melted
1 large marshmallow
1/2 cup green candy coating disks, melted
White pearl dragees, flower sprinkles, white edible glitter and colored sugar
Small piece of tulle

Steps:

  • Prepare and bake cake batter according to package directions for cupcakes. Cool completely., In a large bowl, beat shortening and butter until light and fluffy. Add the confectioners' sugar, 6 tablespoons milk and vanilla; beat until smooth., Transfer half of the frosting to another bowl. Add baking cocoa and 1-2 tablespoons remaining milk to achieve desired consistency. Add lemon zest and extract to remaining frosting., Using melted chocolate, pipe 12 bow ties onto waxed paper. For bride's crown, pipe a 1-1/4-in. ring with melted vanilla coating. Immediately arrange dragees onto ring., For groom's hat, spoon a 1/2-teaspoon round of melted chocolate onto waxed paper into a 1-3/4 inch circle. Cut a 1/4-in. slice from the top of marshmallow. Dip marshmallow in chocolate coating and place in the center of chocolate round. See photo >, Using melted green coating, pipe 12 bouquet stems onto waxed paper. Immediately attach flower sprinkles. Let decorations stand until set. See photo >, Pipe lemon frosting onto half of the cupcakes and chocolate frosting onto remaining cupcakes.
