- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Butter an 8-inch square baking dish.
- Melt the butter in a small saucepan. Turn off the heat and let cool slightly, then add the brown sugar, almond and vanilla extract and stir until smooth. Stir in the egg.
- Whisk together the flour and baking powder in a small bowl, then fold the mixture into the brown sugar mixture. Fold in the pecans. Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and bake until set around the edges but still loose in the center, about 20 minutes. Let cool completely, then sift confectioners' sugar on top. Cut into 16 squares.
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 9x13 inch pan, or for thinner bars, use a 10x15 inch jellyroll pan.
- Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir in brown sugar until smooth. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- Stir the eggs and vanilla into the brown sugar and butter. Mix in the chopped pecans, and then the flour. Spread evenly in the prepared pan.
- Bake for 25 minutes in the preheated oven, or until golden brown. Allow to cool before cutting into bars.

These squares will be crispy on the outside, but gooey on the inside. They are very rich, so a little goes a long way. When you first cut them, you will swear they are not done, but they are, just eat and enjoy.

- Add sugar and vanilla.
- Blend in dry ingredients.
- Add nuts.
- Pour into well greased 8 inch square pan.
- Bake in 350 degrees F oven for 20-25 minutes.
- Allow to cool completely before cutting.
- This will be slightly soft when removed from oven.

BROWN SUGAR CHEWIES

- In a small saucepan, melt the butter. Turn off the heat, add the brown sugar and stir until smooth. Stir in the egg. Stir together the flour and baking powder and stir into the brown sugar mixture. Add the vanilla and pecans. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 20 minutes. When cool, dust the top with a sifting of confectioners' sugar.
BROWN SUGAR CHEWS
A chewy bar cookie with coconut and raisins. These stay soft in the center after baking. I usually double the recipe and bake it in a nine by thirteen inch pan.

- In a medium bowl, stir together the egg, brown sugar and vanilla until just blended. Combine the flour, baking soda and salt, quickly stir into the egg mixture. Fold in the coconut and raisins, then spread the batter evenly into the prepared pan.
- Bake for 18 to 20 minutes in the preheated oven, until bars are golden brown. Cool and cut into squares.
