SUPER SOAP BUBBLE SOLUTION

Super Soap Bubble Solution image

You can blow bubbles with any mixture of soap and water, but add a 'secret' ingredient and you'll get bigger and stronger bubbles!

Provided by Home Science Tools

Categories     Science Project

Time 10m

Number Of Ingredients 5

Liquid dish soap (Joy or Dawn brands work best. Try to find one that doesn't say 'Ultra')
Distilled water (tap water is okay, but distilled water makes the best bubbles)
Clean container with lid
Glycerin or light corn syrup
Bubble wand or straw

Steps:

  • Measure 6 cups of water into one container, then pour 1 cup of dish soap into the water and slowly stir it until the soap is mixed in. Try not to let foam or bubbles form while you stir.
  • Measure 1 tablespoon of glycerin or 1/4 cup of corn syrup and add it to the container. Stir the solution until it is mixed together.
  • You can use the solution right away, but to make even better bubbles, put the lid on the container and let your super bubble solution sit overnight. (Note: If you used "Ultra" dish soap, double the amount of glycerin or corn syrup.)
  • Dip a bubble wand or straw into the mixture, slowly pull it out, wait a few seconds, and then blow. How big of a bubble can you make? How many bubbles can you make in one breath?

VERY POPULAR BUBBLE TEA

Very Popular Bubble Tea image

Bubble tea is very popular, especially to Asians, but now, more and more people from different backgrounds like the taste of it. I'm no expert at this, but I do know how to make it. It's simple but some of the ingredients may be a little tough to find. Just be patient and look for them in Chinese grocery stores. It is worth the trouble!

BUBBLE AND SQUEAK

Bubble and Squeak image

Each year at Christmas, I make sure I have leftovers to make this bubble and squeak on Boxing Day. I like to serve it with cold turkey and salad. This version can be made any time of year, and it's also good served at brunch with sausages. I find it helpful to use an ice cream scoop to divide the potato mixture into portions before flattening them. -Tanya Aggett, Toronto, Ontario

Time 1h5m

Yield 1 dozen.

Number Of Ingredients 9

3 medium potatoes, (about 1 pound) peeled and cubed
3 tablespoons 2% milk
2 tablespoons butter
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
2 cups chopped cabbage
1 tablespoon plus 4 tablespoons canola oil, divided
1 medium onion, finely chopped
2 to 4 tablespoons all-purpose flour

Steps:

  • Place potatoes in a large saucepan; add water to cover. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cook, uncovered, until tender, 15-20 minutes. Drain potatoes; return to pan and stir over low heat 1 minute to dry. Mash potatoes with milk, butter, salt and pepper. , Meanwhile, in a small saucepan, bring 4 cups water to a boil; add cabbage. Return to a simmer. Cook until just tender, 3-5 minutes; drain. Stir cabbage into potato mixture. Add enough flour until mixture holds it's shape when squeezed together. , In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon oil oil over medium heat; add onion. Cook and stir until tender, 3-5 minutes. Stir into potato mixture. With floured hands, shape into twelve 1/2-in.-thick patties. Add remaining oil to skillet and heat over medium heat. Add patties in batches; cook until golden brown, 3-4 minutes on each side.

HOW TO MAKE BUBBLE TEA

How to make bubble tea image

Try a Taiwanese favourite - homemade brown sugar boba milk tea, aka 'bubble tea'. So-named from the tapioca balls that fall to the bottom

Provided by Tiffany Chang

Categories     Drink

Time 35m

Yield Serves 1-2

Number Of Ingredients 7

2 teabags or 2g black tea
50g caster sugar
50g quick-cook tapioca balls (look for ones that cook in 5 mins)
1 tsp dark brown sugar
ice
200ml milk
50g dark brown sugar

Steps:

  • Put the teabags or tea leaves in 100ml boiling water and leave to brew for 10-15 mins. Discard the teabags or tea leaves, then set the tea aside to cool to room temperature.
  • Bring 500ml water to a rolling boil in a small saucepan set over a medium heat, then add the tapioca balls. Using a rubber spatula, stir the water and make sure the balls, or boba, are not sticking to the side of the pan. Turn the heat up to reach a rolling boil for 2 mins, then turn off the heat, but keep the pan on the stove with a lid on for another 2 mins. Drain the boba in a sieve under gentle running tap water for about 20 seconds to slow down the cooking. Using the same spatula, gently push the boba around in the mesh to make sure they don't stick and are cooling down evenly. Once they're cool to the touch, set in a mixing bowl, add the 1 tsp dark brown sugar and mix in thoroughly.
  • To make the sugar syrup, add the 50g dark sugar to 60ml water in the same pan set over a medium heat. Slowly stir and let it come to a boil, making sure all the sugar has dissolved. Turn off the heat and leave to cool down. It will thicken as it cools. This will make approx. 80ml syrup, about 2½ servings. Any leftover syrup will keep in a jar in the fridge for up to a month. A dd the cooked boba and mix until thoroughly coated. The boba can be left covered for up to three hours. Do not refrigerate as they will harden.
  • Assemble the bubble tea. Put the sweetened boba in a 485ml drinking glass, or two smaller glasses if you want to share. Swirl the boba to create a marble effect on the wall of the glass. Pour in the brewed tea and 1 tbsp of sugar syrup. Add ½ cup of ice and, using a metal spoon, stir the glass so the syrup and the tea are thoroughly mixed but make sure you don't scrape off the sticky marbling effect on the wall of the glass. Top up with 200ml of cold milk and serve with a boba straw.
