This is popular in the Alps region of Switzerland, Germany and Austria where the chilly mountain climate and long skiing season make hot drinks such a necessity. A few sips of this will keep you warm on those snowy, chilly mornings.

Number Of Ingredients 7

8 oz fresh brewed hot coffee (strong)
sugar and cream, to taste
1 1/2 oz frangelico or other hazelnut liqueur
1 1/2 oz kirsch (cherry brandy)
2 Tbsp whippped cream
a dusting of fresh grated nutmet, for garnish
dark chocolate shavings, for garnish

Steps:

  • 1. Pour coffee into a large coffee mug.
  • 2. Add cream and sugar to taste (optional).
  • 3. Stir in the Frangelico and kirsch.
  • 4. Top with whipped cream, and grate nutmeg (about 3 to 4 "scratches") on top of the whipped cream. Garnish with a few chocolate shavings, and serve immediately while coffee is still hot.

ALPINE MARTINI

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 1/2 ounces citron vodka
1 (#40) ice cream scoop Douglas Fir Sorbet, recipe follows
1 cup water
1 cup sugar
8 inches Douglas fir (cut into 1-inch lengths)
1 tablespoon gin

Steps:

  • 1 small cedar frond, garnish
  • Chill a cocktail glass. Place vodka in a cocktail shaker with ice and shake vigorously. Place a perfectly round scoop of Douglas Fir Sorbet in the bottom of the glass. Stick cedar frond into scoop of sorbet. Pour chilled vodka over the top. Sorbet should float.
  • Boil first cup of water with sugar and Douglas fir for 10 minutes. Strain and cool.
  • Add second cup of water and gin.
  • Churn as directed on your ice cream machine. Garnish with a sprig of Douglas fir.

Bartender Steve Peters dreamed up Caffè Di Alpi, which is Italian for Alpine Coffee, as a deliciously warming après-ski drink ;) Amaro is an after-dinner digestif and is usually made from herbs, which is usually bitter and sweet. They can be forund as: Averna, Ramazzotti, Lucano, and Montenegro.

1 teaspoon honey
3 ounces hot brewed coffee (hot freshly brewed Cuban coffee, yum!)
1 1/2 ounces Bourbon
1 pinch of freshly grated nutmeg
1 large dollop of alps whipped cream
4 ounces heavy cream
3/4 ounce lucano liqueur (bittersweet Italian liqueur) or 3/4 ounce montenegro liqueur (bittersweet Italian liqueur)

Steps:

  • COFFEE:.
  • Put the honey in a warmed mug, add the hot coffee and the bourbon and stir.
  • Top with Alps Whipped Cream and garnish with fresh grated nutmeg.
  • ALPS WHIPPED CREAM:.
  • In a small bowl beat the heavy cream until thickened, add amaro & beat until firm.

200ml strong coffee , chilled
50ml whole milk
1-3 tbsp sugar syrup (see goes well with)
ice cubes
whipped cream or ice cream to serve (optional)

Steps:

  • Pour the coffee into a blender with the milk and two or three handfuls of ice. Add as much sugar syrup as you like, starting with a small amount - you can always stir more in at the end if you'd like it sweeter.
  • Blend until foamy and the ice is broken into slush. Pour into a glass and add a scoop of ice cream or some whipped cream, if you like.
