Categories     Breakfast

Time 30m

Yield 6

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 cup packed brown sugar
2 tablespoons cornstarch
1 cup orange juice
1 can (11 oz) mandarin orange segments, drained
2 cups Original Bisquick™ mix
1 1/4 cups milk
2 tablespoons butter or margarine, melted
1 tablespoon grated orange peel
1 egg
1 cup frozen (thawed) whipped topping

Steps:

  • In 1-quart saucepan, heat brown sugar, cornstarch and orange juice to boiling over medium-high heat, stirring frequently. Boil and stir 1 to 2 minutes or until syrup is slightly thickened and mixture is clear. Remove from heat; stir in orange segments. Keep warm.
  • Heat waffle maker. (Waffle makers without a nonstick coating may need to be brushed with vegetable oil or sprayed with cooking spray.) In medium bowl, stir waffle ingredients with wire whisk or fork until blended.
  • For each waffle, pour batter onto center of hot waffle iron. (Check manufacturer's directions for recommended amount of batter.) Close lid of waffle maker. Bake 3 to 5 minutes or until steaming stops. Carefully remove waffle.
  • Serve waffles with syrup and topping.

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 large egg
1/2 cup buttermilk
1/2 cup freshly squeezed orange juice
1/3 cup sour cream
5 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
3 oranges, peeled, seeded, and separated into segments, each segment cut into thirds
Orange Spiced Syrup
Vegetable-oil cooking spray

Steps:

  • In a medium bowl, whisk flour, sugar, baking powder and soda, and salt. In another bowl, whisk egg, buttermilk, juice, sour cream, and butter. Stir mixture into dry ingredients. Fold in half the oranges.
  • Coat a waffle iron with cooking spray. Cook waffles according to manufacturer's directions, coating iron with cooking spray between batches, as the oranges tend to stick. Keep warm; serve waffles with remaining oranges and orange syrup.

Provided by GF member Emma Foster

Categories     Brunch, Dessert, Treat

Time 30m

Number Of Ingredients 10

2 eggs
200ml milk
130g self-raising flour , sieved
20g cocoa powder , sieved
20g caster sugar
60g butter , melted
1 tsp orange essence
1 large orange , zested
25g dark chocolate , roughly chopped, plus extra to serve
segmented , maple syrup, grated chocolate and whipped cream

Steps:

  • Heat a waffle maker, or if you don't have one, use a griddle pan (see tip, below). Meanwhile, mix the eggs and milk in a jug.
  • Combine the flour, cocoa and sugar in a bowl, then gradually whisk in the egg and milk mixture until there are no lumps. Slowly pour in the melted butter, still whisking, then add the orange essence, zest and chocolate.
  • Pour a ladleful of the batter into the waffle iron or griddle pan (see below), and cook for 5-6 mins, then repeat - don't worry if the waffles look dark, it's simply the cocoa. Cut in half and top with the oranges, maple syrup, more chocolate and whipped cream.
