3/4 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup (1 stick) chilled unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
1/2 cup Fisher® Chef's Naturals Walnut Halves and Pieces
Filling:
5 Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored and sliced
1 tablespoon water
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
vanilla ice cream (optional)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375°F. Lightly spray 8 x 8-inch baking pan with vegetable oil spray; set aside.
  • For topping, in a medium bowl combine sugar, flour, oats, cinnamon and salt. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in walnuts; set aside.
  • For filling, in a large bowl combine apple slices, water and lemon juice; toss to coat. Turn apple mixture into prepared pan.
  • Sprinkle topping evenly over apple mixture.
  • Bake 35-40 minutes until apples are tender and topping is golden brown.
  • Remove from oven to cooling rack. Cool 5-8 minutes. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream, if desired.

1 cup granulated sugar
1 heaping tablespoon all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup quick-cooking oats
1 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
Pinch of kosher salt
1 stick (8 tablespoons) salted butter, melted
Ice cream or frozen custard, for serving

Steps:

  • For the apples: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 9-by-13-inch glass baking dish with butter.
  • Arrange the apple slices in the prepared baking dish in an even layer. In a bowl, mix together the granulated sugar, flour, cinnamon and salt. Sprinkle the mixture over the apples, then pour 1/2 cup water over top.

Steps:

  • For the filling: Preheat the oven to 345 degrees F.
  • Peel, core and slice the apples to 1/4-inch thickness. Combine the apples, lemon zest and juice, brown and granulated sugars, cinnamon, salt, honey, vanilla and butter in a large pot. Cook on medium heat, gently stirring, until the apples are slightly tender, 8 to 10 minutes.
