This Cheesy Ham Green Bean Casserole got all the flavor of the green bean casserole we know and love, but with that extra oomph from the ham and cheese!

Number Of Ingredients 12

6-8 cups water (for boiling green beans)
2 lb fresh green beans (trimmed)
1/4 cup butter
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1 cup chicken broth
1 cup half-and-half (fat free half and half is ok to use)
4 oz cream cheese (room temp)
2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese
1 cup finely chopped cooked ham
1 container (2.8 oz French-fried onions, divided)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. In a large saucepan, heat 8 cups water to boiling. Trim ends of green bean. Add green beans. to boiling water and cook 5-6 minutes. Remove from heat and drain.
  • In a medium saucepan, melt butter. Add in flour and salt and garlic powder. Stir until well combined. Gradually stir in broth and half-and-half and cook for about 5-6 minutes until smooth and sauce starts to thicken.
  • Turn heat down to low/simmer. Next add in cream cheese and cheddar cheese and stir until cheeses are melted. Once melted, stir in all but 1/2 cup of French-fried (save that 1/2 cup for a topping) onions and the ham. Remove from heat.
  • In a large bowl, combine green beans and cheese mixture. Stir to coat green beans. Spray a baking dish (13x9-inch) with cooking spray. Spread mixture in baking dish. Top with reserved 1/2 cup French-fried onions.
  • Bake 25 to 30 minutes or until hot and bubbly.

1 cup half-and-half
4 oz cream cheese
2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese (8 oz)
1 cup finely chopped cooked ham

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 350°F. Spray 13x9-inch (3-quart) baking dish with cooking spray. Reserve 1/2 cup French-fried onions for topping.
  • In 4- to 5-quart saucepan, heat 6 cups water to boiling over medium-high heat. Add green beans. Cook 6 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat; drain, and place green beans back into pan; set aside.
  • Meanwhile, in 3-quart saucepan, melt butter over medium-high heat. Add flour and salt; stir with whisk or fork until blended. Gradually stir in broth and half-and-half; cook and stir 6 to 8 minutes or until smooth, bubbly and sauce thickens. Remove from heat. Add cream cheese and Cheddar cheese; stir until cheeses are melted. Stir in remaining French-fried onions and the ham.
  • Pour cheese mixture over green beans; stir to coat. Spread mixture in baking dish. Top with reserved 1/2 cup French-fried onions.
  • Bake 25 to 30 minutes or until hot and bubbly.

Steps:

  • Cook green beans. Drain and add to baking dish.

1/2 cup whole milk
1/3 cup mayonnaise

4 slices bacon
½ medium onion, chopped
½ red bell pepper, seeded and diced
¼ cup dry white wine or vermouth
¼ cup milk
2 tablespoons butter
1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
1 tablespoon soy sauce
salt and pepper to taste
½ cup shredded mozzarella cheese
½ cup canned French fried onions

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C).
  • Fry bacon in a skillet over medium-high heat until crisp. Drain on paper towels, crumble, and set aside. Drain most of the bacon grease from the pan, and place over medium heat. Add the onions and bell pepper; cook and stir until tender. Stir in the wine, scraping all of the bits of bacon from the bottom of the pan.

CROUTONS
3 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 1/2 cups 1/2 inch cubes bread from hollowed out bread bowls
1 1/2 teaspoons onion powder
1 teaspoon curry powder
1 to 1 3/4 pound Bread Bowl

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Coat a 11/2-quart casserole dish with cooking spray, and set aside. 2. Combine the soup, milk, and pepper in a medium bowl, add the beans, and transfer to the casserole dish. Bake for 25 minutes, or until slightly bubbling. 3. While the beans bake, prepare the croutons. Heat the butter in a medium skillet over medium heat until it foams (do not burn). Add the bread cubes and toss to coat. Arrange the cubes on a baking sheet, and sprinkle with onion and curry powder. Place in the oven for 15 minutes, stirring the cubes a few times as they bake. Remove when they are brown on the outside, but soft on the inside. 4. Place half the ham on the bottom of the bread bowl, and top with half the green beans. Repeat the layers and top with croutons. 5. Wrap the bowl with aluminum foil, leaving the top uncovered. Place the bowl on a baking sheet in the middle of the oven, and bake for 12 minutes or until the filling is heated through. Carefully remove the foil and continue to bake another 3 minutes. 1 tablespoon canola oil
1 medium onion, chopped
3 stalks celery, chopped
2 cups left-over ham, chopped (I used my left-overs & I'm approximating the 2 cups, use more or less to your liking)
1 (16 ounce) bag frozen hash brown potatoes, partially thawed
1 (12 ounce) bag frozen mixed vegetables (I used carrots, corn, peas & green beans)
1 (10 3/4 ounce) can cream of mushroom soup
1 (10 3/4 ounce) can cream of asparagus soup or 1 (10 3/4 ounce) can cream of celery soup
1 (10 3/4 ounce) can cheddar cheese soup (Campbell's condensed)
1/2 cup medium cheddar, cubed
1 pinch salt
1 pinch black pepper
1 pinch garlic granules
paprika, to sprinkle on top (optional)
1/2 cup green onion, chopped (optional garnish)
1/2 cup fresh parsley, finely chopped (optional garnish)
nonstick cooking spray

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350*F. Prepare a large casserole dish (mine is 12 X 9 X 4) by liberally spraying it with non-stick cooking spray. Set aside.
  • Heat canola oil in frying pan over medium-high heat. Add ham, onion, and celery. Cook until onions and celery are soft. (Approximately 5 minutes).
  • Combine the remaining in ingredients (except the paprika) in a large mixing bowl. Add the ham/onion/celery mixture to the mixing bowl. Stir well to incorporate.
  • Spread the entire mixture into prepared casserole dish; sprinkle with paprika for some color.
  • Bake 1 hour or until the casserole is heated all the way through and the vegetables are tender. Garnish with green onions and parsley, if desired.
