Holiday Recipes: Heavenly Hash image

An easy holiday fruit salad that comes from an old family recipes

Number Of Ingredients 5

2 cups whipping cream
1 can crushed pineapple or pineapple tidbits
2 large cans mandarin oranges
1 can fruit cocktail
1 bag of mini marshmallows

Steps:

  • Freeze the mixing bowl for 20 minutes before whipping the cream.
  • Add 1 tablespoon of pineapple juice from the can to the whipping cream as you whip it.
  • Stop when soft peaks form.
  • Drain the juice for all the cans of fruit and combine in a large bowl.
  • Add the bag of marshmallows.
  • Then, fold in the whipped cream.
  • Cover and put in the fridge until ready to serve.

This recipe is very easy to make. It's very delicious made with rice, pineapples, marshmallows and whipped cream. It has been a favorite in my house for years - you've got to try it!

1 ½ cups water
¾ cup uncooked white rice
2 cups crushed pineapple, drained
1 (10.5 ounce) package miniature marshmallows
1 (4 ounce) jar maraschino cherries, halved
1 cup heavy cream
½ cup confectioners' sugar, or to taste

Steps:

  • In a saucepan bring water to a boil. Add rice and stir. Reduce heat, cover and simmer for 20 minutes. Cool completely.
  • In a large bowl, combine rice, pineapple, marshmallows, cherries and about 1 tablespoon cherry juice. In a chilled bowl, whip the cream until peaks form. Fold in confectioners sugar. Fold whipped cream into rice mixture. Refrigerate for 2 hours.

2 T. Oil
2 Med. Onions Chopped
1 C. Sliced Celery
1 Can Cream of Mushroom Soup
1 Can Cream of Chicken Soup
1 1/2 C. Warm Water
1/2 C. Uncooked Rice
1/4 C. Soy Sauce
1/2 tsp. Pepper
1 Can Crisp Chinese Noodles, Large

Steps:

  • Brown meat with oil till crumbly, add onions, celery, soups. Add water (rinse out soup cans). Stir in uncooked rice, soy sauce and pepper. Turn into large casserole dish. Cover and bake for 30 minutes at 350 degrees. Remove cover and bake 30 minutes more. Cover top with Chinese noodles and bake 15 min longer.

1 (20 ounce) can pineapple chunks in juice, drained
2 (8 ounce) cans mandarin oranges, drained
2 (15 ounce) cans fruit cocktail in juice, drained
1/2 cup coconut
1 cup sour cream
4 ounces Cool Whip, thawed (half of an 8 oz. tub)
2 cups miniature marshmallows

Steps:

  • After draining the fruits, pat them with paper towels to get more moisture off.
  • Stir together sour cream and Cool Whip. Add remaining ingredients and stir gently to combine.
  • Chill at least 4 hours.

This quick and easy recipe makes a nutty chocolate cake with marshmallows and pecans.

4 eggs
1 cup butter
4 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 cups white sugar
1 ½ cups self-rising flour
1 cup chopped pecans
1 (16 ounce) package miniature marshmallows
4 tablespoons butter, melted
4 cups confectioners' sugar
4 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
½ cup evaporated milk

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour an 8x12 inch pan.
  • In a large bowl, cream 1 cup butter and sugar. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well with each addition. Add vanilla and mix to incorporate.
  • In a separate bowl, mix flour and cocoa together, then add to the egg mixture and mix well to combine. Add nuts and combine.
  • Pour into prepared 8x12 inch pan and bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 40 minutes. While cake is still hot, cover with marshmallows.
  • To Make Topping: In a small bowl, combine 4 tablespoons melted butter, confectioners' sugar, 4 tablespoons cocoa and evaporated milk. Spread evenly over top of cake.

  • Sprinkle marshmallows and nuts in a greased 13-in. x 9-in. pan; set aside. In a small saucepan, melt chips and peanut butter over low heat, stirring constantly until smooth. Pour over marshmallows and nuts. Let stand for 8-10 minutes. Gently stir to coat marshmallows. Chill until set; cut into bars.
